A massive thank you to everyone who applied for this round of funding for the Imperial Community Impact Fund.

We received an incredible 160 applications for the Imperial Community Impact Fund—a truly inspiring response! The level of passion and creativity showcased by these projects is a testament to the commitment to making a difference in our communities.

We’ve assembled an outstanding panel of judges to help us select this year’s grantees. Each brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective:
  • Jeanette Barnes, an award-winning artist with extensive experience in fine art and printmaking, brings her creative expertise and passion for supporting innovative community projects.
  • Graeme Smith, a business manager with nearly two decades of experience in waste management and community involvement, offers valuable insight into operational excellence and community-driven initiatives.
  • Elizabeth Chiappetta, who has been with Imperial Polythene for over 20 years, is deeply committed to developing CSR and social value goals and has a strong track record in fostering sustainability and community impact.
The judges met at the beginning of October to review all the applications, and we are excited to announce that the grantees will be revealed within the next fortnight, so stayed tuned to our social platforms and next months newsletter for the big reveal!

While polythene bags often get a bad rap, it's important to recognise that they aren’t always the enemy! When used responsibly, polythene bags can be incredibly versatile and practical. They are lightweight, durable, and waterproof, making them perfect for a variety of everyday uses—from protecting plants in harsh weather to organising and storing items at home.

Moreover, many polythene bags are recyclable and can be repurposed multiple times, reducing waste when handled correctly. With the right approach, polythene bags can contribute to sustainability efforts rather than detract from them.

Here's 5 creative ways to use Polythene Bags this Autumn/Winter

1. Protecting Plants from Frost
If you can't bring sensitive plants indoors, cover them with polythene bags to shield them from frost and cold winds. Just make sure the bags are secured at the base to trap warmth and prevent damage from freezing temperatures.

2. Covering Garden Furniture
Use large polythene bags to cover garden furniture during the colder months to protect against rain, frost, and snow. This is a simple, cost-effective way to keep outdoor furniture clean and dry without needing to move everything indoors.

3. Leaf Collection and Composting
Use heavy-duty polythene bags to collect fallen leaves for composting. They’re strong enough to handle large amounts of leaves and debris, and can be used to create an easy composting system by poking small holes for air circulation.

4. Waterproofing Logs or Firewood
Protect your outdoor firewood stack from rain and snow by covering it with large polythene bags or sheets. This keeps the wood dry and ready for use during cold evenings.

5. Mud-Proofing
In rainy autumn conditions, polythene bags can be used to cover muddy or dirty shoes before entering the house, helping to keep your floors clean. You can also line the car boot with polythene to avoid mud from tools or equipment getting everywhere.

Happy Silver Work Anniversary
Leanne Sturt

Administrative Services Officer
meet the team

We’re proud to introduce Leanne Sturt, our incredibly dedicated Administrative Services Officer, who has been a key part of the team for over 20 years. With her exceptional organisational skills and methodical approach, Leanne ensures that our customer relations, production processes, and administrative tasks run smoothly day in and day out.

Throughout her time with us, Leanne has become known for her unwavering commitment to delivering top-notch service and maintaining efficiency across all aspects of the business. Her experience, attention to detail, and passion for getting things done right have made her an invaluable asset to both our team and our clients.

To help you get to know Leanne better, we’ve asked her a few fun and insightful questions. Here’s what she had to say…

You’ve been with Imperial for an incredible 23 years! What has kept you motivated and passionate about your work for over two decades?

Simply working with such a lovely team! The camaraderie and mutual respect within the team create an environment where everyone feels valued, making even the busiest days more enjoyable.

Customer satisfaction is at the heart of what you do. What’s your approach to building strong relationships with clients, and how do you ensure their needs are always met?

Building relationships with customers is essential. Communication is key and maintaining trust for any customer is priority for me and always will be. My approach is to create lasting relationships where clients feel like they’re in good hands—knowing that not only will their needs be met, but that I’m always there to support them and make sure they’re satisfied.

Working in admin and customer service requires juggling many tasks. What’s your secret to staying organised and maintaining such high standards?

I would say it’s a combination of prioritising my work and staying flexible at the same time. I like to set a number of hours for certain jobs that need completing, starting with the most important.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting out in a customer service role, what would it be?

My advice to anyone starting out in customer service is to really understand how vital your role is. You’re the first point of contact, and how you handle that initial interaction sets the tone for the entire customer experience. It’s so important to listen carefully and make sure you fully understand what the customer needs—whether it’s solving a problem or answering a question, you’re there to help guide them.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only take three products with you, what would they be and why?

A fluffy blanket as I’m always cold, Jaffa Cakes; simply cant live without them and photos of my family.

A big thank you to Leanne for taking the time to answer our questions! We appreciate your insights, your dedication to our customers, and, of course, your love for Jaffa Cakes. Here’s hoping you never actually find yourself stranded on a desert island—though with a fluffy blanket and some snacks, you’d probably manage just fine!
