our pet food pantry at
american legion POST 40 IN PLYMOUTH

Today, we're introducing you to our Pet Food Pantry at the Edward A. Ribeiro American Legion Post 40 located at 199 Federal Furnace Road in Plymouth.

The American Legion hosts a weekly Food Bank to help anyone who may be facing food crisis. They offer meats, dairy, produce, non-perishables, and personal hygiene products. Helping Hands is proud to join the American Legion and combine efforts by offering our Pet Food Pantry. We provide a variety of cat and dog food and treats and supplies. Prescription cat and dog food is available by request only. Please ask us if you are looking for something specific.

The Food Bank and Pet Food Pantry are both open to anyone in need, every Tuesday from 11am-1pm.

HOW IT STARTED..
In September 2021 Helping Hands Board Member, Nancy Cullen, after seeing regular posts for the Legion Food Bank, reached out to them with the idea of providing a pantry service for pet owners to complement their Food Bank. They welcomed us with open arms. Helping Hands started with a single table outside and eventually the Legion was kind enough to make room for our own pantry display space inside and also provided us with dedicated storage space.

Looking to help?
Donations of pet food and supplies can be dropped off during the Tuesday Food Bank/Pet Food Pantry time period (11am-1pm). Non-perishable foods and personal hygiene products for the Legion Food Bank can be dropped off daily from 11am-7pm. The Legion also accepts donations by mail.

If you have pet food and/or supplies to donate to Helping Hands, but are unable to make it, call us at (508) 591-3190 and we can arrange for an alternate drop off or pick up.

We are always grateful to those who financially support our Pet Food Pantry. Your donation supports local pet owners in need, so they can keep their pets healthy, happy, and safe at home with them. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so on our website using the link below.

THANK YOU to American Legion Post 40 Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion Post 40, and the veteran members of American Legion Post 40 who work together to keep the pantry going!

We are grateful to all who participate in fundraising, shopping, stocking, and serving. We understand and appreciate the hard work necessary to make these pantries a success!

Looking to join the American Legion?
Memberships for the American Legion Post 40 are open to Veterans, spouses and children. It's a great opportunity for Veterans who are looking for a space to connect with other Veterans. A yearly membership is about $40 and it's easy to sign up! Please contact them via phone at (508) 746-0009 or visit their website for more information.

We would also like to recognize our incredibly dedicated group of volunteers here at Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals! Our volunteers always show up with smiles on their faces and are the heart and soul of our organization. THANK YOU!

Our team spends hours each week diligently preparing for our pet food pantries. Whether we're out collecting donations, purchasing supplies, stocking the shelves, or fundraising - all hands are on deck to ensure that we are fulfilling the needs of our local community.

What you don't see is all the behind the scenes work that takes place. We break down and repackage all large bags of dry food and jumbo sized treats into smaller servings for the convenience of our patrons. We always want to make sure that we have enough for everyone and not one bit goes to waste! The fully stocked shelves are only temporary, as they are quickly emptied and distributed amongst our three very busy pet food pantries.

One last special thank you to our Community Corporate Sponsor, Megryco Inc. They have so kindly and generously supported our mission and are the 2024 Sponsor of our Pet Food Pantry at the American Legion Post 40!
