Real (approachable) Style Advice for Real (grown-up) Women with
Real (smart) Budgets

Sunday November 11, 2024

Hello First name / friend,

On this Veterans Day, I want to take a moment to recognize and honor the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices of those who have served in the armed forces. This is a meaningful day to show gratitude and connect with the values that bring us together as a nation.  To those of you who have served or have family members who have served our great country, thank you for your service and the sacrifices you’ve made for all of us.🇺🇸

I’m writing this from NJ where I'm visiting my bestie, Jamie, of FlirtyFinds fame. I came down yesterday to celebrate the wedding shower of her adorable future daughter-in-law, Amanda. Amanda and Jamie's son Roger are getting married in January in Miami (where Amanda is from) and this will be the first wedding of any of my friends' kids. Such a special and exciting time and the shower was a beautiful, fun celebration. I've known Roger since day one, and it's a thrill to see him embark on this next chapter. Makes me excited for these times with my three sons – although I haven't started holding my breath. 🤪

As you can see, OUTERWEAR is on my SPEND side, as I think it's important to have outerwear that is quality, functional to your weather, and great-looking. I read once something to the effect of “your coat is the first thing they see when you come, and the last thing they see when you leave". So, don't make your coat an afterthought, and be sure to have a collection of outwear that's appropriate to your weather and lifestyle.

Long overcoats are a classic option that are also “having a moment” right now. I'm seeing overcoats worn with jeans and athleisure as well as with dressier outfits.

I’ve wanted a red coat for years (it reminds me of Mary❤️) and finally decided that investing in a quality red coat was worth it, as budget coats in colors are risky.  I splurged on this one, knowing it will be a timeless piece I’ll wear for a lifetime.

I also wanted a neutral wool coat for everyday wear that could pair well with dresses and skirts as well as jeans and athleisure. I found this one on Amazon last year—it’s simple, classic, and chic, all at an unbeatable price (currently under $50!). I especially love it in black and charcoal. (Remember my tip: darker neutrals work best for budget-friendly pieces like this).
