I’ve had the pleasure of calling many places home, from bustling Brooklyn to the lush mountains of Westchester and even a home across the street from El Morro in Puerto Rico. Yet, moving to a lake community in New Jersey, where black bears wander, and chipmunks eat right from my hand, I’ve found that nature has a language all its own—a language we’re all invited to learn, no matter where we live.
Maybe you have a pet or a beloved plant you speak to. Ever wonder if it listens or if there’s a whisper of connection? I remember gazing at a single leaf on a hedge as a child in Brooklyn, marveling at its life, and feeling that everything—plants, people, animals—shared a common pulse. I promised myself that, one day, I’d befriend as many animals as possible to understand if the energy that all the books spoke of truly connected us all.
Embracing the joy of small connections has always been my approach—taking baby steps, so any stumbles are gentle. Whether it’s a greeting to a plant, a quiet word to a tree, or a shared moment with a bird, each is a small invitation to open the doors of connection, and it's a joyous journey.
