Hi friends,

Last week, I attended a 2-day training. On day 1, I went home feeling very tired with a pain in my back. When I thought about it, I realized my body was not comfortable the whole time. The training hall was small, so I had turned my chair to face the trainer while writing in my notebook, which was in my lap, so I was not leaning on a table all day. So, the next day,  I switched my place and ensured I did not forget my glasses like I did on the first day. This made the training experience much better.

I also noticed that when you can’t get over a negative thought or feel overly obsessed with a particular idea, check your body; your body is probably not comfortable. For example, I obsessed over a comment I received about how I looked the other day, only to realize I was sleepy and my head was not in the right place. My body did not have the energy to put things in perspective; obsessing was easier and less costly on the body budget.

Did you need this reminder, too?

  • Do you go for hours without water or food and then eat whatever is available because you are too hungry?
  • Do you get up and take breaks while working at your desk?
  • Do you need to schedule a doctor’s visit?
  • Do you go to sleep too late for your own good?

We can not show up at our best when we ignore our bodies.

Check your body often by asking, “How does my body feel now, and what can I do to improve that?” Adjust your environment and habits to meet its needs.

Snapshot of the week: A song from my daughter to read when I wake up early, along with the Lego figure I got for myself a few weeks ago at the Lego show

Here is your weekly dose of The Sunday Spark ⚡️ a newsletter listing 3 sparks that I thought were worth starting your week with:

1. ️A thoughtful post by Derek Sivers: To question is to consider, not refute.

2. 🎯 It's THAT time of the year again, which time? Goal setting time! I love to think about my goals for the new year in November before the busyness of end of year holidays and final exams. Here is an article that will get you excited to start thinking about your goals again: Life Goals: Tapping Inspiration Instead of Desperation as the Source.

3. 💬 The quote of the week echoes the message of the above article:
“Not all goals will bring you lasting happiness and well-being, even if you are successful in reaching them. The ones that will are those that satisfy your basic human needs for relatedness, competence, and autonomy."
