Meeting Summary
We asked everyone to introduce themselves and share their experience with burnout. Here's some of what came up:
βοΈ Emily of
Lumos Communications (peep the site - KL built it) pointed out that being burnt out from too many clients and not enough clients both suck.
π« Christy Price noticed that sometimes it's not burnout it's
actually just being bored of doing the same thing too often. Mixing it up is key. She also mentioned
Content Snare β a way to pester your clients to get their shit done without having to do it yourself. So, thank you, Christy!!
πΊ No surprise here - Alyssa of
Ampd Designs thrives on being busy. But she did get really burnt out taking on a leadership role that felt like a lot of commitments she didn't enjoy.
Other Burnout-Causers:
π©π½βπ» A million little hourly tasks - Izzy
ποΈ Not building in enough vacation days - Olivia
π± The fear of not having enough work - Patricia
π«‘ Saying βyesβ to everything - Erin
ποΈ Slow seasons - despite your efforts - Hollei
OK that was a long list.
BUT we also talked about burnout solutions that worked for us:
π«Ά Kasey - low-pressure, community, hang-outs like G+B.
πΈ LG - Profit First (seconded by Hollei) & implementing systems
π³ KL -
Burnout book is great. You have to deal with the stress before you can deal with the stressor.
Also actually eating breakfast.π€³ Erin - doesnβt have email on her phone. Has really strong work/time boundaries.
π» Alyssa - never brings her laptop on vacation.
πΆββοΈOlivia - I started walking and I hate how much it works.
βοΈ Christy starts her day by going outside and NOT looking at her phone first thing.
