“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
- Andy Williams
And so it begins again, what most people consider to be the busiest time of the year, which coincidentally is my absolute favorite season. Each winter we start with the Thanksgiving traditions and continue family celebrations until we welcome in the New Year.
These moments are brimming full of family recipes, traditions, traveling, hostessing and trying to make enough time in each day to get everything finished. Two of my favorite things to enjoy during the holiday season to help me slow down and stay in each moment are decorating and holiday baking.
Decorating the Christmas tree is one of my treasured holiday activities, and one of the things that brings a family together for the start of the season. This is my first Christmas at Capital Prime. I had heard about the holiday decorations, and I will tell you they do not disappoint! We have “decked the halls” with festive trees and twinkling lights guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit. A perfect backdrop for your holiday photos.
Then there’s the baking! Nothing says Christmas like the traditional Sugar Cookie! Whatever shapes and styles the family wants to make they are always delicious, fun edible art. Whether you’re decorating your cookies for a gift, a playful competition to be the most creative, or maybe just for Santa…there’s no wrong way to decorate a Christmas Cookie, and they are always a treat! Here is my family’s traditional recipe I would love to share with all of you.
Christmas Sugar Cookies
2 C white sugar
1 1/2 C butter, softened
*Beat sugar and butter together until smooth
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 C all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
*Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight
Preheat oven to 400
Dust the counter, roll out the dough and choose your cookie cutters
Bake 7-8 minutes. Once cooled…
Decorate & Enjoy!
At the end of it all, no matter how much we may think we need to get done, the holidays are meant for memories. Don’t get lost in the chaos of it. Embrace it! The Capital Prime Family has many wonderful surprises in store for you this holiday season. We hope to serve you soon and help create lasting memories!
Be a joy to those around you, and may you be blessed in this holiday season!
