“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
 - Andy Williams

And so it begins again, what most people consider to be the busiest time of the year, which coincidentally is my absolute favorite season. Each winter we start with the Thanksgiving traditions and continue family celebrations until we welcome in the New Year.

These moments are brimming full of family recipes, traditions, traveling, hostessing and trying to make enough time in each day to get everything finished. Two of my favorite things to enjoy during the holiday season to help me slow down and stay in each moment are decorating and holiday baking.

Decorating the Christmas tree is one of my treasured holiday activities, and one of the things that brings a family together for the start of the season. This is my first Christmas at Capital Prime. I had heard about the holiday decorations, and I will tell you they do not disappoint! We have “decked the halls” with festive trees and twinkling lights guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit. A perfect backdrop for your holiday photos.

Then there’s the baking! Nothing says Christmas like the traditional Sugar Cookie! Whatever shapes and styles the family wants to make they are always delicious, fun edible art. Whether you’re decorating your cookies for a gift, a playful competition to be the most creative, or maybe just for Santa…there’s no wrong way to decorate a Christmas Cookie, and they are always a treat! Here is my family’s traditional recipe I would love to share with all of you.

Christmas Sugar Cookies
2 C white sugar
1 1/2 C butter, softened
*Beat sugar and butter together until smooth
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 C all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
*Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight

Preheat oven to 400
Dust the counter, roll out the dough and choose your cookie cutters

Bake 7-8 minutes. Once cooled…
Decorate & Enjoy!

At the end of it all, no matter how much we may think we need to get done, the holidays are meant for memories. Don’t get lost in the chaos of it. Embrace it! The Capital Prime Family has many wonderful surprises in store for you this holiday season. We hope to serve you soon and help create lasting memories!

Be a joy to those around you, and may you be blessed in this holiday season!

Happy Holidays!

The season is upon us to embrace the spirit of all things merry and bright! We have transformed Capital Prime into a glorious winter wonderland for all of you, our guests, to delight in. We truly delight and are honored to celebrate your holiday traditions with you and your loved ones!

One of my favorite traditions, that I always look forward to during the holidays, is good old fashioned eggnog. It always reminds me of my sweet grandmother, who would only ever have alcohol if it was in this creamy concoction, and her endless giggles after just one cup full. Memories are priceless. If you would like to elevate your eggnog this season and make your grandmother giggle, please try this recipe:

Grandma’s Favorite Eggnog
1 1/2 ounces vanilla vodka
1 ounce amaretto liqueur
2 ounces eggnog
Ground nutmeg for garnish
Cinnamon stick, for optional garnish

While the holiday season is a joyous time for most, it can be a very difficult one for others. There are many who grieve the loss of a loved one, or struggle financially, and we must remain cognizant of these delicate situations. The gifting of love and compassion, time and financial resources can mean so much to those in need. Please consider sharing the blessings in your life with those less fortunate. In this area, there are so many ways we can serve and give back to our community. The Greater Lansing Food Bank or The City Rescue Mission in Lansing are great locations that offer opportunities to serve, assist and support. Reaching out to one of these organizations will bring a smile to someone in need and will fulfill the spirit of giving within you.

As we reflect on the many blessings we share with our Capital Prime family, we are thankful and blessed to serve you throughout the holidays and into the New Year!

Wishing you many blessings,
Heather Hulett

It takes a team to run a restaurant, and within that team certain leaders stand out. Carlos Lopez is one of them. He has been with Capital Prime for almost a year and has given his all to make sure everything is perfect when preparing a dish for our guests.

In only a small time, Carlos has proven his ability to lead by example. When asked “what is your favorite part of working at Capital Prime” Carlos says “Having the ability to learn and grow within the company, and being able to use my creativity”, and it shows. Carlos moved up the ladder very quickly and is now one of our star Supervisors. With his ability to work under pressure and attention to detail along with his time management, it’s no wonder he has risen to this position.

Carlos is a family man and is proud to be an amazing example to his son, teaching him that hard work and perseverance help in achieving success in the workplace and in life. Carlos is passionate about cooking and being able to have so many creative ways to make a dish lends to the fun. When he is not being creative in the kitchen, Carlos enjoys karaoke and time with his family.

Thank you Carlos for being an integral part of our Capital Prime Family.
