Thank you to the like-minded soul who purchased ten copies of our “Suitcase of Memories” book through the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center this past month. I hope we can have a conversation some day about “all things Dutch.” 🌷

 

The book commemorates a group of Dutch immigrants who arrived in 1910 and made their homes in Otter Tail County. (Yes, it’s a very niche topic!) I worked on this legacy project with my sister during the pandemic. It was funded by Rethos and I am so grateful for their support in making it become a reality!

If I still lived on a farm, I’d want a miniature donkey for Christmas. These adorable miniature and micro-mini donkeys live just a few hours away from me in southern Minnesota. Can you imagine being able to pet a baby, miniature donkey!?! These little cuties would probably even fit inside my Christmas stocking! 🎁

Feeling overwhelmed by too much noise over the holidays? If only we could teleport to Olympic National Park in Washington where a tiny red pebble marks what may be the quietest outdoor spot in the United States. This “sanctuary of silence” was created to encourage people to connect with the sounds of nature. It was a clever conservation tactic: by protecting the square inch from noise pollution, it became necessary to preserve the entire surrounding national park as well. 😉
