We are excited to announce a transformative project in partnership with Make It Home and Eden Housing, fueled by a generous Project Homekey award from the State of California. With these funds, an office building at 3301 Kerner Boulevard in San Rafael is being repurposed into permanent supportive housing to aid individuals experiencing or who have experienced homelessness due to mental illness. Loczi Design is honored to lend our expertise in designing and furnishing several studio and one-bedroom apartments for this noble cause. Our commitment to social responsibility and community support is brought to life through this initiative, as we help create welcoming and functional living spaces for those in need. We're thrilled to contribute to this adaptive reuse project and look forward to making a meaningful impact in the lives of our new neighbors in San Rafael. Stay tuned for more information. How can I help? Great question! You can contribute by donating new to slightly worn furniture to Make it Home here. |

When engineers Mark and Wendy decided to move their family from the tiny town of Cazadero in western Sonoma County to Sebastopol, seeking access to more community amenities, they saw potential in a 2,300-square-foot, four-bedroom, two-bath, split-level home in a quiet neighborhood. While the rooms felt closed off and dark and the aesthetic was dated, the house was spacious with good bones and a familiar midcentury sensibility. |

DECEMBER'S DESIGN CRUSH: PEACE INDUSTRY RUGS |
|
This month, we're thrilled to spotlight a truly inspiring local treasure—Peace Industry Rugs, founded in 2020 by Melina Finkelstein and Dodd Raissnia. Having known these remarkable artisans for 15 years (wow, time flies!), I can personally attest to their dedication to quality and their deep, heartfelt commitment to their craft. “Each piece they create radiates with beauty and expertise; each rug is unique." says Loczi partner Mike Ufferman Melina, the matriarch and originator of Peace Industry, is a non-objective painter and rug designer whose work features bold, geometric patterns on wood and fabric. Her collaborations extend across the globe, including woven tapestries made from old abstract paintings and partnerships with weavers and felt makers in Mexico, Iran, and Nepal. Melina's artistic pursuits also include running the Melina Finkelstein Gallery in Oakland, which focuses on painting and textile art, exploring themes like modern architecture, fashion, geometry, and textures. The recent opening of the Melina Finkelstein Gallery at 6020 Adeline Street in Oakland marks a new chapter, one that continues to embody her ethos of artful living and sustainable craftsmanship. The approach they take in rug making artfully merges ancient methods with modern design, infusing each piece with a narrative that's both soulful and ethically grounded. They're not merely designers; they are community builders, enhancing our local culture and interiors with stories woven from the very fabric of artistic passion.
