Hello, friend –

Each December, the Internet goes into overdrive. There are year-end best-of lists from every media outlet, fancy displays of personal listening and activity data you can share with your followers, musings on what’s in and out for the year to come, individuals’ top 10 photos of the year, and an endless number of ads and influencers reminding us to buy, buy, buy and do it now, now, now. While some of these things are informative, impressive, community-forming, or otherwise helpful, they can easily beckon the comparison monster, here to remind us only of what we lack.

Acknowledging that I’m part of this internet machine, I’d like to offer you some simple reminders for this month.
  • You can mute or unfollow accounts that don’t serve you.
  • You can put your phone on do-not-disturb.
  • You can even (gasp) delete apps, for a little while or forever.
  • You can delete emails (especially the promotional ones) in bulk.
  • Your own “year in review” is your reality, with all its ups and downs, with everything you celebrated and learned.

Don’t let the internet comparison machine steal your joy.

See you tomorrow –
Allie
