Happy Friday!

I hope you have all had the most wonderful week after Thanksgiving break!

If you are planning to audition for "The Sound of Music" it is very important you read this email in its entirety...

After much thought and prayer, we have decided to postpone auditions to January 14th-16th.  There are multiple reasons for this decision, and ultimately, we want to do what is best for the kids.

Our primary reason for moving the auditions is that we have several students who are involved in athletics for the spring, and those athletic schedules have not yet been released, as the coaches are working very diligently to get dates and locations confirmed. We are blessed to work alongside our athletic department, as well as our fellow Fine Arts and Academic departments here on campus, and we recognize that many of our students are involved in more than one extracurricular activity. In order to maintain this spirit of cooperation, and to ensure the best possible performance in May, it is imperative that we have a comprehensive list of potential conflicts prior to the casting and scheduling of our rehearsals.

In addition to the conflict lists, this delay will give our students more time to prepare for the upcoming auditions. In lieu of the auditions next week, we would like to offer a workshop next Thursday, December 12th, to assist with the preparation process, in which we will demonstrate the best way to go about selecting your song, the cut, and the accompaniment track for the auditions. For those who cannot attend this workshop in person, we will post a video recording of the workshop on the school's YouTube channel, so you can access it later as you help your students prepare for January's auditions.

This workshop will take place in the SLC from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this change. While delays are seldom enjoyable, we would not be able to make decisions regarding casting without the conflict information, and no one wants to go into Christmas break waiting for the cast list to be posted! We know many of you have been practicing and preparing for these auditions diligently, and we commend you for that. KEEP PRACTICING! Use the Christmas break to polish your audition piece even more, and to fully memorize, if you have not yet done so.

Lastly, we post the Callback Audition Materials (audition sides/script excerpts and music excerpts from the musical) to the Fine Arts Page of the MCS website prior to the break. If you are auditioning for a particular role, you can get ahead of the game by reviewing the lines and songs that you may be asked to sing (should you be called back).

If you have any questions or concerns, please email Ms. Holmes at aholmes@mcs1.org.

We believe in you and are excited to begin this process after the break.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

We'll see you soon!
