‘Isobel, I know testimonials are gold for copy but my clients keep sending me generic 'She was great!' responses. What questions should I ask to get more detailed (and helpful) feedback?’

Ah yes, the "She was great!" testimonial.

You know it – buried in your Google Drive is a folder of sweet but surface-level feedback that doesn't tell potential clients anything about what you actually do.

"Amazing experience!"
"So lovely to work with!"
"10/10 recommend!"

Those one-liners might make you smile but they tell you nothing about what clicked with your clients, which parts of your process made the biggest difference, or even what made them choose you in the first place

But your happy clients? They *want* to share more than just nice words. They just need the right questions to open up.

Let me show you what feedback questions help you get real client insights:

Skip the basic "How was your experience?"
  • What made you decide to work with me?
  • What was your favourite part/What did you find most helpful?
  • What's the biggest surprise from our work together?
Get the before & after:
  • What was happening in your business that made you reach out?
  • What were you worried about before we started?
  • What's different now compared to before we worked together?
Learn what worked (or didn’t)
  • Did you have any hesitations before working together?
  • What part of working together was the hardest?
  • Is there anything I could’ve done to better support you?
Of course, don’t forget to ask for permission to use their responses in your marketing!

And when you get those detailed responses back? You’ll see…
  • What actually matters to your audience, not what you think matters
  • What makes someone ready to dive in and work with you
  • Which parts of your process get your clients the most stoked
  • The exact words your audience uses to describe their challenges
  • Where your work is making the biggest impact (and where it could be even better)
It's like having a focus group, brand strategist, and copywriter all rolled into one.

From there, you can add all these fresh insights straight into your website copy so your readers get that ‘they’re talking straight to me!’ moment.

Or, ya know, have me do it for you! I’m booking January website copy projects – just head to my website to get all the deets.
