As we conclude the 2024 Mountain Club of South Africa Johannesburg Section Community Program, we celebrate a year of incredible connection, discovery and amazing growth!

To the participating groups, Parktown High School for Girls, DlalaNje, LIV Lanseria - thank you for bringing your energy, your curiosity and determination to this journey in 2024. Together we've individually shown up to the program more than 500 times this year to embrace the outdoors, step out of our comfort zones and connect with nature in an impactful way.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous sponsors - Old Mutual for the buffs and bottles that kept us prepared for every adventure. And High-Tec for the durable footwear that gave us the freedom to roam with confidence. Your support has made this program not just possible, but meaningful.

To the incredible volunteers that were so generous with their time, love and care and presence. To the Women Who Walk, thank you for feeding the children and participants throughout the year with sandwiches, sweets and much more. With the unwavering support of volunteers from Summits With A Purpose and Women Who Walk, we fostered a community of mountain lovers, independent hikers, and future leaders. Through this program, we aim to empower individuals, create a sense of belonging, and nurture a lifelong passion for the outdoors.

ABSEILING @ CASTLE GORGE
What a fantastic way to brush up on our abseiling skills—it felt more like playtime than practice! There were three abseiling options, each with its own unique blend of height, intensity, and a splash of wetness. Add in plenty of opportunities for swimming, jumping, and simply chilling out, and it made for a perfect escape from the December heat.

This gem of a spot proved to be an ideal retreat, combining adventure with relaxation. Huge thanks to Roger and Jenine for organizing such a fun-filled day and helping everyone gear up for upcoming events like Easterkloof, Sekororo, and Loskop!
