Candy Cane Lane in Seattle marks 75 years of holiday enchantment

Seattle's Candy Cane Lane, a beloved holiday tradition for 75 years, dazzles visitors with its festive lights, music, and decorations. Located in the Ravenna neighborhood, the display began its 2024 season on Saturday and will run through New Year’s Day.

Candy Cane Lane began in the 1940s as part of a neighborhood holiday contest, gaining its iconic name in the 1950s. The 23 Tudor-style homes along the lane are adorned with unique decorations, including towering six-foot candy canes and a merry-go-round in the roundabout, which returns this year with its original "Angel Chimes" theme from the 1960s.

In addition to the festive lights, Candy Cane Lane is deeply rooted in community and charity. Visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for the University District Food Bank and support the Ravenna Pop-Up Kitchen with cash donations.

Local bands, like the University of Washington Husky Marching Band, add to the festive atmosphere, while nearby café Seven offers treats and hot chocolate.

Candy Cane Lane shines brightly from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and until 11 p.m. on weekends. Special pedestrian-only nights are scheduled for December 7, 10, 15, and 19. Whether you’re admiring the decorations or supporting local charities, this holiday tradition remains a beacon of seasonal joy.
