Thailand

Hi there,

My eldest, Charlie, was being a prize pill about attending a summer program when he was 17.  He was too old for camp, and spending the summer playing video games was just not going to happen.

I gave him the travel catalog for Overland ( I would have KILLED to have had this as an option when I was his age), handed him the phone with one of their counselors already on the line and left the house.

Yes, it was a drive by shooting, but, you know, teenagers…..

Overland is a wonderful program for teenagers with cultural destinations all over the world. The only one I was reluctant about was Thailand ( it seemed too far for a first solo trip.)

When I returned home, guess where Charlie was going? Thailand.

It was ALL he talked about for months.  HI, I'm Charlie and I am Going To Thailand.”  He had a fantastic month touring the country, learning to speak and cook Thai, and a week taking care of elephants at an ethical rescue.

đź“Ś Travel & Leisure recently crowned Thailand as the Destination of the Year for 2025, celebrating its "art, food, and hospitality," among other highlights.

đź“Ś Meanwhile, White Lotus fans are buzzing about the third season
(February 16 on HBO) , filmed on the stunning island of Koh Samui—one of Thailand’s most iconic destinations.  If you have not seen the first 2 seasons of White Lotus you must!

But beyond magazine covers and TV series, Thailand is a destination that truly lives up to the hype.

From the  temples of Chiang Mai to the markets of Bangkok, the beaches of Phuket to the jungles and history of Kanchanaburi, Thailand offers something for every traveler.

Whether you’re itching for adventure, cultural immersion, or relaxation, there’s never been a better time to plan your journey to Thailand.

Let’s take a closer look at why this vibrant destination deserves a top spot on your travel radar. ✨
XO, Jackie
The Timeline
WHEN TO PLAN & VISIT
If you're wondering when to visit…

Thailand is a year-round destination, but knowing the seasons can help you plan your ideal trip!

Bangkok, essentially, has two types of weather: hot and sticky, and hotter and stickier. Luckily AC is plentiful, and set to polar cool.

When booking your trip to Thailand, you’ll want to take the country’s seasons and temperatures into account. While Thailand is almost always hot and humid, its “cool season” typically lasts from November through February, while “hot season” is from March through June, with April notoriously being the hottest time of year. July through October is known as “monsoon season,” so pack a light rain jacket or poncho.

If you're wondering when to book this type of trip…

For popular destinations like Phuket, Krabi, and Koh Samui during the cool season, booking 6-9 months in advance ensures the best selection of resorts and flights. If you're eyeing boutique stays or special experiences (like a luxury river cruise or a private villa), early planning is even more crucial.

Cultural festivals and peak travel periods, like Songkran in April, also fill up fast—so let’s get started sooner rather than later!
Must Visit Spots
BANGKOK & BEYOND
Bangkok: Start your journey in Thailand’s vibrant capital. Visit the glittering Grand Palace and Wat Arun, shop till you drop at Chatuchak Market, and savor street food at every turn (don’t miss pad thai or mango sticky rice). For a unique experience, hop on a long-tail boat and explore the city's intricate canal system.

Chiang Mai: This northern gem offers lush mountains and rich traditions. Wander through the old city’s temples, partake in a traditional Lanna cooking class, or visit an ethical elephant sanctuary. Time your visit for the Yi Peng Lantern Festival in November for an unforgettable evening.

Phuket and Krabi: For beach lovers, these southern spots are paradise. Lounge on powdery beaches, kayak around limestone karsts in Phang Nga Bay, or take a boat to Phi Phi Islands for iconic turquoise waters. Want a quieter escape? Consider nearby Koh Yao Noi or Koh Lanta.

Ayutthaya: Step back in time with a visit to Ayutthaya, Thailand’s ancient capital. Just an hour from Bangkok, this historical city is home to stunning temple ruins, including Wat Mahathat, famous for the Buddha head entwined in tree roots. Explore by bike or boat for a unique perspective on this fascinating slice of Thai history.
