Hey Muses!
Happy New Year! (Hear me out, when I started this newsletter, it was the first week of the year and here it is…the last few days of the month.) Whether it was a tough year, great year or a little mixxy, we all made it through 2024! Unfortunately I haven't written my reflections or intentions, fortunately, I want to! Last year, I had no desire to sit down and do it and I was VERY confused by that. It's something I've always loved doing and the desire was not there. When I found out I was pregnant in late January, that absolutely explained it- I'm convinced. So if you enjoy doing some sort of reflection on the past year and intentions for the current year, find a bit of time to sit with yourself.
I am hoping to share goals in the February newsletter. Feel free to share your goals, intentions, resolutions-whatever you call it- so I can share next month. Depending on what I get back, maybe there will be a chance to collaborate or start some accountability check-ins
The word of the month (possibly year) is hygge. I've seen it in 2 newsletters and heard a podcast about it. It's a Danish word that describes a cozy mood and a sense of contentment. When speaking about hygge (pronounced who-ga) think about slowing down and enjoying life's little moments. In late December, I listened to an episode of Everyday Better titled Hygge: Conscious Coziness as a Survival Strategy.
The question I've been asking myself is How can I experience Hygge now? And to be very honest, I don't know. I have a short list of things that would elicit coziness and contentment but, I'm finding it hard to actually find the time with new mom life. I have fleeting moments to myself and as soon as I settle into one, it's over. Life now is…different. It's not hard. It's just different and I'm trying to give myself grace and have patience as I navigate the changes and challenges as a working mom.
This is how I envision hygge for me:
- Close to my fireplace with a book + a drink nearby. Could be tea, hot cocoa or mulled wine. Harmony in her rocker and content.
- Cooking and eating a bowl of soup or stew, with a crispy piece of bread
- Making breakfast (my favorite meal) and coffee and with nothing to do after so, a slow-ish morning.
Not much, but even thinking about the moments above give me warm fuzzy happy feelings.
This is a quote I saw on IG, I'm leaving it here because it's something I've been telling myself often. It's been helpful and maybe for you, it will alleviate stress that isn't yours to carry.
“You cannot do anyone else's inner work.”
No matter how much potential you see, how much you love another person, how much you care… If I focus on being the best Jordan, then I can shine in other aspects of my life. If this quote hits you, keep it close as you navigate through your desire to do for someone else what they won't do for themselves .
