ADOPT AN OBJECT SCHEME

 

Coventry Transport Museum is giving visitors a unique opportunity to support its work by adopting an item from its transport collection.

 

The museum, home to the largest collection of British road transport in the world, features record-breaking vehicles, pioneering bicycles, and luxurious cars spanning Coventry’s rich history.

 

Now, with the venue’s Adopt an Object initiative, you have the opportunity to adopt some of the most famous vehicles and transport items connected to Coventry.

 

From the Thrust SSC, the world’s fastest land vehicle, to Queen Mary’s Royal Limousine, there’s something to captivate every enthusiast.

 

Adoptions are available at Gold (£100), Silver (£50), and Bronze (£25) levels, making it an accessible way for individuals to contribute.

 

As part of their adoption, supporters will receive a digital certificate, a photo of their chosen object, and more. Funds raised will help CV Life (Culture Coventry Trust) continue preserving and showcasing the city’s rich transport heritage.

HELPING THE COMMUNITY

 

On Monday, January 6th, Coventry BID Street Patrol Officers, along with Coventry City Council's Environmental Case Officer, Suresh Retinasingham, encountered an elderly male sleeping in the doorway of an empty unit on Hertford Street, near the HMV Empire. After engaging in a lengthy discussion with the individual and making a referral through Street Link, the male was taken to a place of safety.

The individual is now receiving advice and support from local services with the goal of ending his homelessness. Additionally, with the help of the Coventry City Council Streetpride team, the frontage of the empty unit has been cleared.

Over the next three months the public are being asked to give their views on the Mayor’s plan for a franchised bus network to replace the current private operator led system.

 

Under franchising, Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), which is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), will set the fares, timetables and routes of bus services and award contracts to private bus operators to run them.

 

It means the politically accountable Mayor and regional leaders, through TfWM, can design a network which best serves residents and businesses. 

 

The wide-ranging consultation – available on the TfWM website – will outline what franchising entails and ask people, businesses and groups for their views which will then be submitted to the Mayor before a final decision is taken in the Spring.

 

Eight in ten public transport journeys in the West Midlands are by bus – accounting for more than 240 million passenger journeys last year. It is estimated the network contributes £4.4 billion a year to the regional economy (KPMG figure).
