Market Update  |  January 2025
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

January in Portland often brings cold, rainy days, with an occasional touch of ice - perfect for cozying up indoors. While moments of rest and reflection are important, stepping outside for a breath of fresh air can be equally invigorating.

As we embrace the new year, let’s take a moment to keep those affected by the devastating fires in Southern California in our thoughts. The loss and challenges they face are unimaginable, yet it’s a testament to the strength and resilience of communities coming together. If you’re looking to help, consider supporting organizations providing relief, such as:
This season, I’m also focusing on making an impact locally. While national changes may feel overwhelming, I believe in the power of small, meaningful actions to keep Portland thriving. Supporting local businesses, engaging in community-driven initiatives, and preserving Portland’s unique spirit are at the heart of this effort.

Let’s step into 2025 together and make this year one of hope, action, and community. Supporting and referring talented professionals is a simple yet impactful way to contribute to our shared success. I’m here to help guide your referrals through their residential changes with the utmost care and professionalism.

Thank you for your trust and support. Here’s to a year of growth, collaboration, and new opportunities!

Warm regards,
Meg Barrett

Market Update
The 2024 headlines were dominated by talk of high interest rates and a sluggish real estate market. However, reality tells a more nuanced story. For example, the average sales price in the Portland Metro Area rose 1.8%, from $598,000 to $608,600. In West Portland, a client’s annual asset audit showed their home’s equity increased by 3.8%, translating to a net gain of $27,843!

Your home is more than a place to live—it’s a valuable asset that should be monitored alongside your other investments, like your 401(k) or stocks. If you’d like an in-depth analysis of your home’s performance over the past year, I’d be happy to help. Click below to request a property review report. If you’ve made any major improvements recently, we’ll be sure to include those as well.

Local Initiatives
One way I’m supporting local initiatives  is by collaborating with neighbors, meeting monthly to brainstorm ways to “Act Local.” I’ll keep you updated on the projects we take on, and I’d love for you to join if you’re interested! Transition Projects, a long-standing Windermere partner, remains a key focus as we continue efforts to make our city better.

The Local Impact on Dry January
For a lot of folks, January means taking a break from drinking alcohol and, in some cases, disappearing entirely from local bars and restaurants during an already slow time of the year.

The Art of Downsizing
with the help from your trusted Real Estate Broker
My work in real estate is about helping people optimize their lives. Sometimes this takes more than knowing the market. When clients are downsizing, my experience with the emotional and logistical aspects of the transition makes for a more seamless move.

When a house holds the memories of a lifetime, and clients feel connected to a neighborhood and a community but need a fresh start in a new place, the transition can be emotional and challenging. I love to be present with my people. It brings me joy to honor the history and life of a client’s home, let the home shine, and support my client in all aspects of the move.
