Vintage retro logo that says The Friday Finisher in off white and black colour.
Hi First name / friend,

Yes, Friday is here, yay. Is January over yet? No, wait… we've even got ANOTHER Friday this month? Officially the longest month ever.

Firstly, wow, thank you so so much for the reviews about this newsletter you guys sent in last week. I honestly was nervous I wouldn't get any response but you all stepped up and sent in such kind words. I am so grateful and nearly all of your reviews have been added into my website. (I couldn't fit them all in, nice problem to have). You guys rock!

Well, now is the time to share something really exciting. With just you loyal newsletter readers. My portfolio website is officially done. I set myself the goal to have it complete by the end of this month, and I did it. I wanted you guys to be the first to see it before I make it live everywhere else. Check it out below!

WEBSITE OF THE WEEK
My New Portfolio Website Is Here

Last year I had the goal of finally updating my portfolio website, I also had that goal the year before that, and probably the year before that, too. Client work, video creation, and life outside of design took more priority.

However, recently I've been wanting to show off my work more, maybe to give myself some credibility, or maybe because I just don't want my designs collecting dust on my hard drive. Whatever the reason is, it is here!

I even took some new photos, in my living room, using a yellow bed sheet, it's all high budget 🤣

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the site, the work, the usability, or if you spot any mistakes I've inevitably made somewhere. Go easy on me.

NEWS ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
Okay, AI Might Be Coming For Your Job…

Well, I want to always keep this newsletter uplifting and a place for fun, but sometimes I just want to share out what I come across that sometimes might not be so positive.

The World Economic Forum produced a report named ‘The Future of Jobs’. Surveying 1000 employers, and the findings are not on our side to say the least. They found that graphic design is the 11th fastest declining job category over the next five years, and yes you guessed it; AI is probably to blame.

Now from my opinion, I don't think it's all doom and gloom, I know photographers panicked when the digital camera first released. Graphic design will change, but it won't end. It'll just be different, and that is okay. I could really speak for hours on end about AI's place in the design world, but for now, take a read of the article and let me know how you feel about it all by replying to this email.

And yes, I did use AI to make the cover photo, and yes, it is bad.

DESIGN OF THE WEEK
Flushing Away Poverty

Toilet Twinning is a great organisation that funds projects in communities that help families to build their own basic toilet, access clean water, and learn about hygiene – a vital combination that saves lives. An important cause that needed branding to match.

Well, you know those times where you look at a logo and just smile at how good it is? I had that very reaction to the logo by Wildish & Co (one of my favourite design agencies at the moment). It really is so clever (yet simple) the way they have worked a silhouette of a toilet into the lettering. Smart, fun branding done right.

The rest of the branding has bold statement making type, playful rough edged illustration stickers, and eye-catching colour combos.
I give it my seal of approval, if that means anything?

DESIGN ASSET OF THE WEEK
CV/Resume InDesign Template

With the new year, it feels right to share this great clean and modern CV/Resume template designed by Robert McCombe. (Maybe some of you follow his great content on socials already).

Like all of Robert's great work, this template is designed on a grid layout, with a clean simple structure to make your type and career history easy to read and digest.

If you're looking to step up your career this year, it all starts with a great looking resume document, so go grab it while it is still free.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Handwritten Graphics Without an iPad

I'm always looking for unique ways to make my social content stand out, whether that is for Callum's Creative Club or just my own personal Instagram stories when I'm documenting something going on in my life.

One thing I'm a little bit bored of though is Instagram's font choices, they just feel a bit meh at times. I could of course go to my iPad, write something out, export it, send to my phone, but who really has the energy for that?

Well, this video I found yesterday from Vitavurgis on Instagram shows how you can use your phone's Notes app to write something by hand and then copy and paste it into your social content, pretty cool! Who would have thought it is really that simple? No wonder the video has gone mega viral.
