Here are trusted resources for free and low-cost immigration legal services: 
Know Your Rights: Everyone in the U.S., regardless of immigration status, has rights under the Constitution. ILRC Red Cards are available in multiple languages to help individuals understand and assert their rights if approached by ICE or law enforcement. For legal advice, always consult an immigration attorney or
an accredited representative. Stay informed and protect your rights!

Tax season is here, and free help is available. If you need assistance filing your 2024 
tax return, these are no-cost tax preparation services in Fairfax County. 
Click the documents above to read the full details about these local services. 
  • VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) - IRS-certified volunteers help individuals and families earning $64,000. Learn more and find a location.
  • Financial Empowerment Center at South County - Offering free tax preparation assistance, weekly tax tips workshops, and tax debt relief clinics in partnership with Legal Services of Northern Virginia. Learn more about the FEC's services.
What to Bring: 
  • Photo ID for you and your spouse if filing jointly.
  • Income statements (W-2, 1099, etc.) for you and working dependents.
  • Social Security card or ITIN letter for all family members.
  • Voided check for direct deposits.
  • Expense documents (childcare costs, education expenses, mortgage interest, etc.).
  • Form 1095-A if you received health coverage through the Marketplace.

If you are facing a heating emergency, Common Help can help with heating equipment repairs, fuel costs, and utility bills. Assistance is available for households with no heat or at risk of losing heat. 
  • November 1 - March 15: Help with heating equipment repairs, maintenance, and security deposits.
  • January 1 - March 15: Assistance for purchasing home heating fuel and paying heating bills.
