The MCSA Johannesburg is a vibrant community for those passionate about exploring, protecting and conquering the mountains. With a rich mountaineering heritage, MCSA Johannesburg caters to those seeking adventure in all its forms—from climbing rugged rock faces, hiking across pristine mountain properties to conserving our natural spaces.

What sets us apart is our dedication to exploration, providing our members with wonderful opportunities to connect with the outdoors in meaningful ways. In addition to hiking and climbing, through our mentorship programs, technical training and conservation initiatives,
we're committed to developing the next generation of mountain stewards who can continue to discover, connect and protect our mountain heritage.

There is great camaraderie within our Club—there is something special about sharing an outdoor adventure with like-minded people who share your passion for the mountains.

We are deeply invested in the future of mountaineering and mountain access, and we work closely with landowners and local communities to preserve the beauty and accessibility of our properties.

We are not just a club, we are a gateway to a life filled with exploration, challenge, and connection. Whether you’re a seasoned mountaineer or someone just starting to feel the call of the mountains, we have a place for you!

CASTLE GORGE HIKE

Our group of eager hikers grew to 36 when we bumped into a few permit holders in the parking lot, all ready to explore the stunning Castle Gorge under ideal overcast skies. For many in the group, it was their first visit to this Magaliesberg gem, making it even more special to share this outdoor treasure with fellow nature lovers.

After a snack break and refreshing dip at Piranha Pools, we continued to Castle Gorge just as the clouds began to lift. The intermittent sunshine added a touch of magic as we spent a blissful hour swimming, relaxing, cheering on the handful of brave souls who made the bigger jump and marveling at Jenine and Jaco's impressive waterfall abseil. On the return journey, partial cloud cover kept us cool, making for a pleasant hike back. Fittingly, the clouds finally cleared just as we descended into the forest for the final stretch - a perfect ending to a truly beautiful day enjoyed by all.
