Hey there, Camper!

Welcome back to Seek + Source Winter Camp First name / there

I hope you’re staying cozy as we dive into one of our sourcing journey's most exciting and critical parts: ordering samples.

This step can feel like opening a treasure chest; it’s where your vision starts to come to life!

Week 4: Ordering Samples And What to Look For

Ordering samples is all about communication and clarity. For my oven mitts and pot holders, I’ve been asking manufacturers a few key questions to make sure everything aligns with my brand.

Here are the questions I ask:

1. What materials are available? I’m hunting for durable, heat-resistant textiles that are also soft and comfortable.

2. Can you do custom printing? Design is at the heart of my brand, so vibrant and precise printing is non-negotiable.

3. How much do samples cost, and how long will they take? This helps me plan my timeline and next steps.

Once the samples arrive, I’ll evaluate their quality, workmanship, and how well they fit my vision. This step is all about ensuring the product meets expectations before committing to a full order.

Your Fun Camp Activity: Sample Evaluation Checklist

Imagine holding a sample of your dream product in your hands. What’s the first thing you’d check? Will you inspect its quality? Test its functionality? Make sure it aligns with your brand.

Campfire Story: Why Samples Matter

When I was sourcing tea towels, getting the colors just right was a challenge. Samples allowed me to compare manufacturers and find one who nailed it. That attention to detail ensured my final product was exactly what I envisioned and delighted my customers.

The same goes for my oven mitts and pot holders. Samples aren’t just a checkpoint; they’re an opportunity to refine your product and make sure it’s something you’re proud to put your name on.

Next Week: We’ll tackle the mental hurdles of sourcing a new product. It’s a vital part of the journey, and I can’t wait to share my strategies for overcoming them.

Until then, keep cozy, stay inspired, and keep moving forward!

Happy Winter Camping,
Rebecca
