Hi First name / friend,

Yes, we've made it to the last Friday of January, hurrah!
The days are getting a little longer/lighter here in Amsterdam, which always helps brighten my mood, I hope it does for you too.

I wanted to say thank you so much for checking out my new portfolio website I shared last week. It was actually the most clicked link since this newsletter began, so I guess I can call my portfolio a record breaker ;)

I've got a really exciting event to announce today, something I usually don't do, but in the year of saying YES, I said yes to this, and best of all, it's free for you to attend.

Let's do this!

EVENT OF THE WEEK
Come To My Talk - It's Free

Design Prom is here, and you're invited.

This February 12–14, myself and my creative buddies are throwing the raddest virtual event of the year. It’s a full-on 80s prom-themed summit packed with over 20+ epic design experts ready to help you level up your creative game.

Here’s the deal:
🎤 Learn from legends like Aaron Draplin, Meg Lewis, Annie Atkins, and James Barnard, and myself, obviously!

🎨 3 days of free presentations to supercharge your design biz.

💎 Upgrade to the Prom Pass for over $2K worth of exclusive bonuses, courses, and templates. Seriously, all the creators you love have shared something epic in the bundle, including my e-book that covers how to grow on social media. The amount of files you get for the price is an insane deal.

I'll also be doing a live Q&A right after my talk, so I'd love to see you there, fellow newsletter friends.

NEWS ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
Bad Communication = Bad Design

Good design isn’t just about making things look great. No, it’s about making sure your ideas actually land. Miscommunication can mess up even the best projects, which is why top studios like New Studio and Studio Yukiko swear by clear, intentional communication.

The article highlights the importance of speaking to designers at all levels by keeping communication clear, structured, and accessible. Whether you're working with juniors, seasoned creatives, or non-design stakeholders, the key is to translate complex ideas into simple, actionable language.

So, if you’ve ever struggled to get your ideas across, this one’s worth a read.

DESIGN OF THE WEEK
Dropbox's New Brand Guidelines

Okay, sorry to say but I find most brand guidelines overstuffed, boring and just tiring to look at… don't hate me.

However, Dropbox just dropped a super cool brand guidelines site unlike anything I've seen before, and I think you're going to love it. It’s not just a boring rulebook, it’s an interactive playground for exploring their brand identity.

You can tweak their custom typeface with the Variable Type Explorer, mess around with icons using the Icon Slot Machine, and get a real feel for how Dropbox brings its brand to life.

As Dropbox’s Brand Studio puts it, you’re not just reading about their brand, you’re experiencing it. If you're into branding, typography, or just cool design resources, this is definitely worth checking out.

DESIGN ASSET OF THE WEEK
Another Font to Add to Your Collection

I took a quick look over on Creative Market this week and came across a nice new typeface to add to my never-ending font folder.

So, if you’re into experimenting with new typefaces, Floora is an interesting one to check out. It’s a modern font duo that combines a clean serif with a flowing script, giving it a nice balance between structured and decorative.

I feel it could be great for branding, editorial work, or anything that needs a mix of elegance and personality. The Desktop license is free for a short amount of time, so go grab it.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
1000 Mug Project

Sometimes (okay, maybe all the time) I crave to step away from my laptop or phone, to use my hands for something creative. I came across this video on my feed this week of Instagram creator Callahanccallahan who's set himself the task of creating 1000 different types of mugs. Random? Yes. Interesting to watch? Very much so.

The process of creating this typography mug was beautiful to watch and really highlighted to me that I need to step away from my laptop and create something that doesn't involve pixels.
