Real (approachable) Style Advice for Real (grown-up) Women with
Real (smart) Budgets

Sunday, February 2, 2024
Hello First name / friend,

Welcome to February ❤️—the longest short month of the year! 🤪

Every year around this time, we start dreaming of escaping somewhere warm. Next year, we just might make it happen. Since we can both work from anywhere, we’re toying with the idea of packing up the car, grabbing Freddie the Dog, and heading south for a few weeks. No destination in mind yet—got any suggestions?

In the meantime, I’m all about finding ways to make February feel a little less… February-ish. I’m back on the tennis court, which has been great, and we’ve been having fun at the new pickleball facility in town. We also started a fun little tradition—Tuesday night dinners out, to break up the week. We've been trying different spots, and usually sit at the bar, which leads to fun conversations and meeting new people.

How do you keep the winter blues at bay? Would love to hear your February survival tips!  Oh, and if shopping is one of your winter ‘hobbies’…BEWARE, and scroll down to see how I justified a recent purchase.

Winter is the perfect time to pause on shopping, clean out your closet, and get creative with what you already own—while still keeping up with the #justgetdressed habit!

This week on Tipsy Tuesday, I shared 3 easy outfit creation tricks that will help you feel more pulled together without buying anything new.

1️⃣ Tone-on-Tone on Top

Wearing the same color (or similar tones) for your top and layering piece instantly creates a modern, streamlined look. Try a matching cardigan and top or a blazer in the same shade for effortless chic. Pro tip: Add texture (like knit + silk) and accessories to keep it interesting!

2️⃣ The Three-Color Rule

For a well-balanced look, stick to three colors in your outfit. And for even more polish? Tie in your shoe color with something on top—your bag, jewelry, a belt, or even a scarf. Example: I wore a royal blue top with a royal blue cardigan, white jeans, and added black boots, a black belt, and a black bag to tie it all together.

3️⃣ Balance Your Silhouette

Proportion makes all the difference!
• If you’re wearing wide-leg pants, pair them with a more fitted or cropped top.
• If you’re in slim pants, go for a looser, oversized sweater or blazer to balance things out.

These little tweaks make a BIG difference in how put-together your outfit looks.

3. A Favorite Find and Shopping Tips:

I recently bought this gorgeous faux fur jacket, and since so many of us are focused on shopping intentionally, I wanted to share how I used my three go-to questions before hitting “buy”:

1️⃣ Is this on my Wardrobe Wish List, and does it align with my style goals?
✅ Yes! A faux fur jacket was on my list. It’s chic, practical, warm, and works dressed up or casually.

2️⃣ Do I already own something similar?
✅Nope! No faux fur in my closet, and no chocolate brown either—a color I’ve wanted to add to my coat wardrobe.

3️⃣ Can I wear this in multiple ways?
✅ Absolutely. I’ve already worn it three times a week—over jeans and sneakers, with a matching lounge set, and layered over a skirt/sweater. It’s timeless, versatile, and will be in my wardrobe for years.

Moral of the story? Shopping with intention works! 🙌
Coat from favorite, trusted brand - also in a gorgeous oatmeal.
