As we enter 2025, our coalition is looking forward to continuing to advocate for rural youth across Northern California. Rural youth are an often overlooked group in our state and it's important that we continue to strive to elevate their perspectives in the policy process. Here's to 2025, where we will continue to make strives for rural youth all across Northern California! Bode Gower Founder and Chair of the NCYPC |

These last few months have seen the establishment of two new committees: the Policy Committee and the Communications Committee. The Policy Committee will be meeting to discuss the legislation that NCYPC endorses and draft letters of support, while the Communications Committee will focus on delivering updates regarding the coalition via these newsletters and our instagram. Both committees are still open to members, and those interested in joining should contact our chair, Bode Gower, at gowerbo@gmail.com. NCYPC has almost reached 100 members, and we have welcomed several new leaders to our coalition, including Director of Outreach Eva Pintane and Region 3 Director Jazmin Garcia. We still have many County Director positions open, and if your county’s position is vacant and you’re interested, please fill out this google form. Welcome to all our new members! |

NCYPC aims to advocate for the voices of rural youth by supporting legislation that will have a direct impact on their lives in areas such as broadband, fire insurance, educational opportunities, and school safety. We are proud to announce that three of the pieces of legislation we endorsed earlier this year have passed: AB 2771 (Maienschein)- Supporting Student Attendance SB 946 (McGuire)- Tax Exclusions for Homeowners who Receive Wildfire Mitigation Payments SB 1288 (Becker)- Artificial Intelligence in Schools If you are interested in seeing our 2025 Legislative Platform, please view it below: |

The Northern California SpeakUp Initiative is a focused series of events organized by the Northern California Youth Policy Coalition (NCYPC). Designed for high school, the initiative empowers young people to actively participate in local governance by attending and contributing to city council meetings, town halls, and public policy forums. The program focuses on identifying specific youth priorities and presenting them directly to policymakers to influence decisions at the local level. Our objectives are to elevate youth priorities, build political awareness, and prepare young advocates with practical skills such as drafting public statements and engaging with elected officials. |

In the year since the founding of the NCYPC, we have placed emphasis upon the voices and viewpoints of our Northern California youth, enabling them to advocate for the issues that are most important to them. We look forward to continuing our mission in 2025! |
