Dear Neighbors,

As the Metro Council convened last night, there was much on the agenda, but above all, safety remained our city's top priority. On the heels of last month’s heartbreaking shooting at Antioch High School and ongoing issues like firearm thefts from cars across Nashville, we remain committed to ensuring that every resident felt secure in their homes, schools, and neighborhoods.

We want to build a city that protects and uplifts everyone. That means ensuring mental health resources are available for those who need them, particularly for our LGBTQ+ community. It means making sure our immigrant neighbors know their rights, especially in interactions with ICE. It means recognizing the ongoing fight against human trafficking, and I’m proud to be working with Thistle Farms and other partners to expand support for survivors.

February is also a time for reflection and celebration. Black History Month calls us to honor the past while fighting for justice today. Lunar New Year ushers in the Year of the Snake, symbolizing wisdom and transformation—something we could all use more of right now. As the Metro budget process begins this month, we all have a chance to ensure our city’s priorities reflect the values we share. Your voice matters, and I urge you to stay engaged.

Through it all, I’m grateful for the strength of this community. Let’s keep showing up for each other. Stay safe and warm!

Brenda Gadd
Councilmember, District 24

P.S. A big thank you to the NDOT crews for their winter weather response! All 2,475 miles of snow routes have been pre-treated. Remember to give crews plenty of space to work, avoid traveling if possible, and drive slowly and cautiously if you must be on the roads. Click here for snow routes.

Bringing Pro Women’s Basketball to Nashville
Image item
I’m proud to have helped bring Athletes Unlimited (AU) Pro Basketball to Nashville, marking a major step forward for women’s professional sports in our city. Now through March 2 at Municipal Auditorium, some of the best players in the world—including WNBA stars—will compete in the only U.S. pro league outside the WNBA.

This isn’t just about basketball. Women’s sports are a smart investment with a growing fan base and economic impact. Nashville’s deep basketball history and commitment to equity made it the perfect home for AU’s fourth season.

This is just the beginning. I hope you’ll join me in supporting this moment for our city. Tickets start at $20 at AUProBasketball.com.

Housing and Infrastructure: Community Conversations
Image item
Join Metro Nashville staff for conversations and presentations about housing and infrastructure opportunities and challenges, followed by a community Q&A session. These conversations are the first of many engagement opportunities related to the Housing
and Infrastructure Study.

The Housing and Infrastructure Study is a holistic look at residential development and our
existing and planned infrastructure capacity to understand if current zoning policies or other
barriers harm Metro’s ability to address the city’s housing needs.

District Improvements and Zoning Updates
46th Avenue Bikeway Improvements
The bikeway improvements from Murphy Road to Charlotte Avenues along 46th Avenue are underway. The full plan can be viewed here. There will be delineators, but no crosswalks across 46th Avenue at Dakota. However, there will be bike crossing markings on Dakota, though not on 46th. Crosswalks cannot be installed without sidewalks and ADA-compliant ramps on both sides, as required by federal law. Adding ramps to this project would have significantly increased both the scope and cost.

Whitland Ave/Bowling Ave To 180' South of West End Ave
Construction at the Whitland/Bowling intersection is nearly complete, except for asphalt in the parking area and new signs. The project is expected to be complete by April. A neighborhood group is collaborating with a landscape architect to design a landscaping plan for the intersection, emphasizing safety, sustainability, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness.
