Anyone keeping up with the quid pro quo drama between Eric Adams, Trump, and federal prosecutors? The tl;dr is that Adams said he would provide federal immigration enforcement cooperation, including the re-establishment of an ICE office at Rikers Island, in exchange for his federal bribery and corruption charges being dropped.
Not sure how long these documents will be hosted but below are links to Danielle Sassoon's resignation letter outlining all the ways in which Adams is indeed guilty of his federal charges. Important to note that Sassoon is a conservative, registered Republican appointed to Southern District under Preet Bharara (who was appointed by Obama).
Emil Bove's letter in response to Sassoon's resignation was particularly nasty and just plain lawless. In no valid sense do you uphold the Constitution by disobeying direct orders implementing the policy of a duly elected President, and anyone romanticizing that behavior does a disservice to the nature of this work and the public’s perception of our efforts.
In case anyone had doubts of this administration's authoritarian nature. But let's be honest, they said to hell with checks and balances a long time ago.
