Meeting Summary

🌎 We started with how pricing and packages have changed in web design overall.

From hourly pricing β†’ to value-based pricing β†’ to VIP days and sprints everywhere…web designers have gotten creative with their offers in order to sell their services!

πŸ’€ To be or not to be…upfront with pricing??

We talked about the pros and cons of having set prices listed on your website.

Some creatives really need the flexibilty of custom pricing for each client. While others like the structure of set pricing - even if they just keep it to themselves.

πŸ’¬ We talked forms of pricing communication

  • PDF pricing sheets to share with clients and affiliates who might refer you
  • In-House pricing spreadsheets to help you the business owner understand what you're charging
  • Clearly stated packages listed on a website
  • Packages with starting points listed on a website
  • Pricing calculators to help clients choose their own adventure
🚧 Then we discussed how to contend with upheaval

Specifically, we talked about what to do when a community is in crisis due to natural disaster or political chaos.
The pressure to provide services for cheap or free to help a community vs. your own need to make a living when you've also been impacted by events.

πŸ–οΈ ‼️ Two big Lessons
  1. We're ALL out here uncharging and overdelivering because we can't help ourselves. Cool it!
(We talked about the practice of cutting your own timelines so you literally CANNOT do as much.)
  2. Price your services for the HARD clients.
πŸ’° We finished with some of our most valuable investments
  • Classes - learning something you think you already know. We can always learn more.
  • Advice - getting an outside perspective on your own business (you're too close to it) whether it's on design, strategy, copy, money or something else.

The world is in a tailspin but we're all here together to talk it out and help each other:
