Photography, at its core, is an act of seeing. But beyond merely capturing what is visible, expressive landscape and nature photography invites us to perceive the world with depth, emotion, and personal meaning. Since I visited Japan in 2018, I’ve been interested in the Zen aesthetic principles of Japanese art and philosophy, as they can offer photographers a rich source of inspiration. With my recent win of a guided photography trip to Japan courtesy of OM-System, I wanted to revisit these principles in preparation for my travel.

I recently spent 5 days shooting in Rocky Mountain National Park. I’d never been to Colorado before, so this was an exciting location for me, and came on the heels of an incredible Women’s Winter Conference hosted by Outdoor Photo Alliance. After the conference, myself and 6 other landscape & nature photographers, all amazing women, rented a house in Estes Park and ventured into the national park each day. Here I share the fruits of that trip.
