Hey First name / you,

Happy almost-March and welcome to this month's newsletter on how to truly care for your hair. I'm answering your 5 most asked questions on haircare ๐Ÿ‘‡

Let's goooo

๐ŸŸค HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WASH MY HAIR?
My answer has always been and always will be: whenever you feel like it. When you wash your hair, you're essentially washing your scalp, not so much the ends of your hair. You want to make sure your scalp gets a nice scrub and a good exfoliation.

Becauuuuuse a healthy scalp equals healthy hair. You can wash your hair when you feel it's gotten oily and needs a good lather. That's as simple as it is, really.

Remember, everyone is different, and hair is complex. How oily you are depends mostly on your genetics. Some people are just more oily than others, so you may wash more or less than others, and that's OKAY.

๐ŸŸค SHOULD I BE USING SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOO?
I don't know why sulfates have become the boogeyman in recent years. Sulfates are essentially molecules that help remove dirt, oils and debris from the hair. Yes, sure they can strip your color, but so can water and sunlight. Opting for a sulfate-free shampoo may be gentler on you scalp if you have sensitivities, but it can also not clean your hair the same way a regular shampoo can.

So the answer is no, it's not necessary to use sulfate-free shampoo.

๐ŸŸค SHOULD I BE USING PROFESSIONAL SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER?
I love me a good professional brand. HowEVER, scientifically, drugstore brands can be just as good as professional brands. The ingredients are the same. The formulations may even be identical. If you have a specific problem you need to fix, like damage, opt for salon haircare to fix the problem. If you have relatively good, normal hair, you can use drugstore shampoo and conditioner.

I like to alternate my haircare. I use both drugstore and salon brands.

It is ultimately a trial and error process, though, because hair is so complex. Drugstore brands are relatively cheap to try and test out so go for it!

๐ŸŸค  BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE CHEMICALS? AND THE LAWSUITS?
Everything is a chemical. Water is a chemical. If you're talking about harmful chemicals, I assure you scientists are really smart people who do a lot of research to make sure the ingredients in our products are safe and are not going to k*ll us.

Cosmetic chemists genuinely love their work and are excited to create products that actually give results. It's the reason why I know drugstore brands are just as good as professional. They're created by the same people for the same conglomerate companies.

About lawsuits: Just because a company has a lawsuit against it, doesn't mean it's bad. People love suing companies for the most random things, so you can ignore that.

๐ŸŸค DOES A SHOWER FILTER WORK FOR HAIR GROWTH?
I've used shower hair filters when I lived in an old building that had really bad pipes (so bad it was giving my makeup brushes split ends!). It made my hair nice for a couple of months, but it wasn't enough to drastically change my hair. A shower filter must be changed every couple of months, and can be part of an entire haircare regimen to get your hair healthy, but it's not the end all be all.

You can certainly add it to your haircare routine for best results.

๐ŸŸค HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BE CUTTING MY HAIR?

It depends on:

1. How fast your hair grows and
2. What's your long-term plan? Do you want to grow your hair or keep it at the length you have now? Do you want to maintain your cut or let it grow out?

๐Ÿ‘‰ If your hair grows fast and you want to maintain your cut, then book your appointments every 2 months. It's super important to know how fast, or slow, your hair grows and book accordingly.

๐Ÿ‘‰ If your hair grows slow you may not need a cut for 3+ months. I have clients that book every 6 months.

๐Ÿงก In both cases, my GUIDELINE is to get a cut ONCE EVERY 3 MONTHS, or change of season. You can change the shape, update the length or add a fringe. โœ‚๏ธ

Say, if you got a cut now in February, your next cut will be due in May, just in time for a fresh spring/summer look! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒท

๐ŸŸค  WHAT CUT IS TRENDING RIGHT NOW?
The bob! A couple of months ago I was desperate to cut bobs, and the Universe heard my pleas because now all my clients are asking for bobs.

French bob, straight and sleek, triangular, Italian โ€ฆ you name it. It's so timeless and stunning!
