Hello First name / friend!

There's a destination that has been growing in popularity lately – even earning the title of the 'best country in the world' in the CondĂ© Nast Readers' Choice Awards. And many of you have come asking about it.  Any guesses?

If you guessed Japan 🇯🇵, you're correct!

(If you guessed somewhere else, I'd love for you to hit reply and share your guess!)

This dynamic and unique destination presents a wildly juxtaposed setting: deeply held traditions side-by-side with cutting-edge technology. Ancient temples and skyscrapers. Vibrant cities and revered natural settings.

Japan is not a destination that can be conquered easily. Even Anthony Bourdain is quoted as saying that he had barely scratched the surface of Japan after numerous visits.

"Japan is endlessly, endlessly interesting to me," he said. And even after going on nine filming trips there, "I don't think I've even scratched the surface and I don't think I ever will."

If exploring this complex country is on your radar, this newsletter will provide the smallest of samplings. For a bigger picture, you know where to find us, First name / friend!

Japan is a country of contrasts—where ancient traditions meet cutting-edge modernity. From its historic temples and serene landscapes to its vibrant cities and renowned hospitality, Japan offers an immersive experience unlike any other. It’s a destination best explored with care and planning to uncover its many layers.

Wondering when to visit?

🌿 Late Spring to Early Summer (After May 10 – End of June)
A favorite season for those in the know. April’s unpredictable weather gives way to clear skies, vibrant green rice fields, and lush gardens. With no major holidays, sites are less crowded, and hotels offer better availability and rates. Occasional summer rains may appear in late June, but nothing close to a monsoon.

🍂 Mid-September to Mid-October (Late Summer)
A well-kept secret. With the summer rush over and locals back at work and school, travelers enjoy a more relaxed experience. Expect warm but less humid temperatures (25-30°C / 77-86°F). While occasional typhoons are possible, Japan’s infrastructure is well-equipped, and there are plenty of indoor options, from world-class museums to private ateliers and incredible spas. Early October is slightly busier but still an excellent time to visit.

🏔 December (Until Dec 20-23)
As winter sets in, Japan sees some of the clearest blue-sky days, perfect for viewing Mt. Fuji. In certain regions, you’ll catch the last of the autumn leaves, and overall, there are fewer tourists. Hotel rates remain reasonable, with last-minute availability still an option. Plus, December marks the start of crab season—a must for food lovers.
