The Mayan Cosmovision is a rich, complex worldview that interweaves spirituality, astronomy, nature, and community. It is deeply rooted in the understanding that everything is interconnected—humans, nature, time, and the cosmos. Time is alive and spirals. Land is alive and wants to be touched; acknowledged. Rituals, offerings, and ancestral wisdom are the center of life. Within this vision there is no equivalent for “bad” because life is viewed through the lens of balance. Everything has a mate — light and shadow; masculine and feminine; rise and fall; day and night. This view offers a profound invitation: the places we fear or reject are deeply connected to the places we desire or long to be with. The hidden faculties of the soul lie beneath heaps and heaps of rejection. So, rather than focusing on something being “bad” or “wrong,” our awareness is free to turn towards realignment, noticing places of imbalance — chaos, ignorance, pain, suffering, disorder, or darkness — as keys and source-points for restoring harmony. As we enter into this cave of darkness and what we might consider negative, we are actually returning to our base, the place we come from: our essence; our soul; the original aspects of who we are, planted deep. The place where we can rediscover the seeds of our unique offering, and offering meant to flower within world above. Why do we fear the cave? It’s cold and damp. It’s difficult to see. There are foreign entities lurking in the shadows. Time becomes less knowable. Why love the cave? It invites you to learn how to create warmth — how to build and tend a fire. It’s so quiet you can hear the most subtle whispers of the world. It’s dark enough that you must learn to see with the edge of your skin. It demands you recognize your vulnerability and come into right relations with all the other beings resting there alongside you. Your sense of time dissolves into the present moment. It takes a heart on fire to sit in the mouth of the cave and receive its medicine. As we emerge, we stand between soul and spirit, which are fused within the body, a body that has the capacity to sense into these realms and transmit universal energies into planet Earth. We are meant to be active in this world, allowing energy to flow through our unique shape and express out into the world — like a rose, like a bee, like a flame. And yet, it’s a challenging time in this world and so easy to become disoriented. We become oriented when we connect to our bodies and harmonize the energies (and emotions) that are present within our inner space. The way to do this is through ritual, what we might also call practice. Ancient traditions around the world show us how to perform this alchemy, transmuting chaos into order, ignorance into wisdom, pain into pleasure, rupture into rapture. Often these rituals take on the form of what we consider the arts — music, singing, dance, painting — or more science-based protocols — somatic release practices, breathwork — but it would be a mistake the intention for the aesthetic or form itself. As I’ve been initiated into different traditions around the world, I’ve experienced several universal principles that guide the rituals they enact to remain oriented, one of which is make offerings. Offer yourself offer yourself to the mouth of the cave she’s a jaguar the cave that shelters your weeping heart the heart that has carried you across lifetimes into this very moment the moment that’s come to collapse those lifetimes into a four consecutive breaths breathing the breaths you’ll take as you cry out with gratitude for every step, every hand extended your way the way you’re now going, blind to the finish, but alive so very alive, so very alive alive with yearning for an indivisible heart to recognize your own fullness the fullness that comes from offering yourself again We must be willing to let go of what is superficial, what is no longer, what is dried up and decayed in order to keep the flame alive, so we can walk just a little deeper into the cave and touch that a more essential life that yearns to burn through us. We must be willing to offer the beauty, sweetness, and abundance that arises from this place out into the world, rather than hoarding it for ourselves, to keep the flame alive. Deep gratitude to my brother and guide, Walter Quicain, for sharing Mayan wisdom and medicine with me. My heart is forever flowered open to the beauty of Guatemala and the ancient traditions she holds dear. With love, Kathi |

MARCH 2025 Deep Review, Dynamic Shifts, Bold Movements --- On February 23, Mars turned direct after about two and a half months, marking a transition from introspection to renewed motivation and action within the areas of our lives ruled by Cancer and Leo. During his retrograde, Mars was in his debilitation in Cancer, so you may have experienced a season of emotional stagnation or frustration. In the weeks ahead, there’s an opportunity to reconnect with a renewed sense of drive and courage, taking action with greater emotional awareness and making progress on projects or initiatives that you’re passionate about. Mars will be building momentum over time, so be patient and begin with small, meaningful actions. Today, on February 27, the Moon is new in Pisces—a mystical and creative moment to dream and plant new seeds, especially within the area of your life where Pisces resides. This lunation enhances and is supported by artistic expression, intuition, poetry, and music. If you’ve been seeking a creative breakthrough, it’s a beautiful time to create intentional space to court the muse. Drop in, connect to your emotions, and surrender. Notice what arises from that place and which dimensions of your life—relationships, career, health, service, home—are calling for more beauty and artistry. Pay attention to your dreams… Venus is currently in her shadow and will go retrograde on March 1, moving from Aries into Pisces until April 12 — another moment of review. During this time, Venus is asking you to reassess your relationships, personal values, and finances. Who and what do you truly value? In particular, what have you been learning about these themes since January 9? What relationships emerged during this time? Were they truly aligned, or were they simply fueled by Aries’s passion?Expect to revisit any unfinished business because you’re being given an opportunity to realign and deepen. Pay particular attention around March 27, when Venus moves into Pisces and crosses paths with Neptune—this moment is bound to feel boundless. On March 14, just before Mercury goes retrograde, we will have a lunar eclipse in Virgo. Eclipses often bring moments that feel fated—sudden beginnings and endings. Because this one is in Virgo, you may find that you’re being invited to refine the details of your life, especially in the house Virgo rules for you. Neptune is involved, so be mindful of potential illusions or confusion. If you have any placements at or near 25° in your chart, you will likely feel this eclipse more intensely, especially since Venus and Mercury will meet the North Node around this degree just a few weeks later. A day later, Mercury will go retrograde in Aries from March 15 to April 7, bringing us into even deeper reflection on what the eclipse surfaces. The pre-shadow began yesterday, on February 26, so you can already begin to take note of recurring themes. As always, this is a time to be more mindful of details, embrace technical difficulties, avoid impulsive decisions, and practice compassion if communication mishaps occur. More importantly, Mercury is teaming up with Venus to review the area of our lives ruled by Aries. Take some time to consider the themes of that house so you can actively contemplate and bring a clear mind to what’s arising. On March 24, Mercury will enter into the heart of the Sun—a great time for bold communications or announcements. Within this time, we’ll have another eclipse—this time, a partial solar eclipse at 9° Aries on March 29. This is a powerful signature, signaling an opportunity for reinvention, bold moves, and breaking free from anything that stands in your way. Aries emphasizes individual desires, while Venus is still in retrograde, asking you to review your relational needs. The combination spotlights the necessity of integrating the two: How are you making space for your desires amidst your most treasured relationships and what they need to flourish? Are you asserting your needs? Overly compromising? In summary, as we move through this month we are invited into deep reflection, recalibration, and bold transformation. Mars direct rekindles our drive, the Pisces New Moon opens portals of creativity, and Venus retrograde urges us to reassess love, values, and alignment. The upcoming eclipses in Virgo and Aries mark powerful turning points—calling for refinement, release, and courageous reinvention. With Mercury retrograde weaving through these shifts, patience and self-inquiry are key. This is a time to trust the unfolding, honor your truth, and step forward with both clarity and heart. --- Ultimately, this astrology will show up for you based on how these transits are interacting with your natal chart. If you’re curious, let’s dive in and explore. The more aware you are of what’s naturally arising through you and your life, the more you can work with it rather than unconsciously resisting. Your awareness is what determines the path you take through these times. |

‘The Craft of Writing Empathy’ - On Otherness, Analysis, and What I Learned in Clown School by Nuar Alsadir. Here are two snippets that really had me: “The man then imagines that the person who has seen him peeping through the keyhole knows him as he cannot know himself—knows him, in fact, better than he knows himself. He can now only know himself by reading the other’s knowledge, see himself through the gaze of the other. This transformation from being a subject with agency (the one doing the looking) to an object in another’s world to be evaluated (what do they see?) results in what Sartre calls existential shame—the shame of having been caught in the act of being who you are.” “Poetry needs to wholly kiss, have holy intensity.” I would highly suggest reading the whole thing. |
