What can you do?

CALL or EMAIL YOUR LEGISLATORS – BOTH SENATE AND HOUSE – sample talking points below – Feel free to leave a message.  It is hard for them to answer all calls.  Ask them to vote NO on SB 358 and YES on Rep. Vinton’s House Bill on exempt wells.

Attend the hearing in Helena, scheduled for this Friday, February 28th, 2025 at 3 pm, 3rd Floor, Room 303.

We need to fill the room with 200 people. Gather at the information desk on the 1st floor of the Capitol about 1:00 p.m. Speakers will be organized and briefed on how the hearing will proceed. If you wish to speak, we will be glad to help you with your speaking points.

Call in to testify on these bills.  Even if you just want to say your name, where you are from, your business name and say “I oppose this bill” for SB 358 or “I support this solution” for the House Bill, everything helps.

You need to register 2 hours prior to the meeting to testify.

SHORT VERSION:

“Please vote NO on SB 358 and YES on Rep. Vinton’s House Bill on exempt wells.”
LONGER VERSION:

“SB 358 would permanently close aquifers around key areas like Bozeman, Helena, Missoula, and Ravalli County to most exempt wells and subdivisions, potentially limiting future development in these regions. We support a more balanced approach that protects Senior Water Rights while still allowing responsible development throughout Montana. Please vote NO on SB 358 and YES on Rep. Vinton’s alternative bill.”

Feel free to leave a message—it’s hard for legislators to answer all calls, but they will hear your voice.

There is a better solution! HB704 has the provision that Montana Bureau of Mines conduct a study in the “RED” areas that are going to be designated for no new development if this bill passes. This will protect Senior Water Rights, allow for responsible development, and address the Horse Creek decision
