Hi First name / friend,

Wow, the last day of February is here (if you're reading this on the date of sending aha, if not, hello March!) January sure dragged, but this month has flown by. I'm still pretty quiet with freelance work, but I've kept myself busy by filming videos and creating some personal projects to fill up my days.

While I've got you here, I just wanted to say a big thank you for being with me week after week. Last week's edition was the most read/opened newsletter since I started this, and it's really been a joy to create this space and see it grow.

In this week's edition I've got some great pieces of content for you, from an amazing display font I discovered, to an article on how to ask for a raise at your job.

Let's get into it.

DESIGN ASSET OF THE WEEK
Free Typeface by Becca Dore

Oh who doesn't love a cool bold quirky display font? Well I came across type designer Becca Dore this week and I noticed she was giving away this beautiful typeface that really packs a punch.

If you are looking to create something eye-catching for your next design project and you're getting a little tired scrolling through Adobe Fonts endlessly, well get downloading this!

NEWS ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
How To Ask For A Raise

Talking about money can feel awkward, but knowing your worth is essential—especially when asking for a pay rise. In this eye-opening article, Alex Moshakis shares his ten-month journey of negotiating a salary increase, uncovering the lessons many of us aren’t taught about workplace pay. From researching industry rates to gathering hard evidence of his contributions, he highlights the strategies that can make these conversations more successful.

If you've ever hesitated to ask for more money, this article is a must-read. It challenges the idea that pay rises are simply handed out and instead shows how preparation, confidence, and even discussing salaries with colleagues can work in your favour.

We are all noticing how expensive the cost of living is right now, and creatives are notoriously paid less than their worth, so let's go get what we deserve!

DESIGN OF THE WEEK
Ice Tea Never Looked So Good

Halfday, the prebiotic iced tea brand, has unveiled a fresh new look alongside an expanded range of flavours. With a sleek, modernised identity and packaging designed to highlight its gut health benefits, the brand refresh aims to strengthen its position in the growing market for health-conscious beverages. By refining its visual identity and expanding its flavour offerings, Halfday is making a bold statement in the world of functional drinks.

The rebrand not only enhances its shelf appeal but also reinforces its commitment to great taste with added health benefits. As someone who is obsessed with bold bright packaging, this design project reminded me of why I fell in love with branding in the first place.

How Budgets Affect Design Output

Great design isn’t just execution, it’s exploration. When a budget is tight, there’s little time for deep thinking or creative play, forcing designers into quick, surface-level work. The result might meet the brief, but it lacks the depth that comes from real experimentation.

Bigger budgets allow for research, strategy, and refinement—ensuring a more thoughtful, bespoke solution. Clients aren’t just paying for the final design; they’re paying for the thinking behind it. One of my design friends antoncreations on Instagram made a great video showing how his process evolve through different budgets.
