THREAD X FLORES COSMOS: CULTIVATING CREATIVITY
In the heart of a dynamic creative space, something unique blossomed. Flores Cosmos, a floral design studio known for its poetic and evocative botanical work, recently held its first-ever workshop in collaboration with Thread, a dynamic space for artistic expression. This gathering marked a milestone for Flores Cosmos, as they shared their creative and practical knowledge with an eager group, guiding us in the construction of a stunning large-format botanical installation.

A MEETING OF MINDS AND NATURE
Thread, a space dedicated to fostering creative exploration, provided the ideal setting for this inaugural workshop. With its ethos of collaboration, it served as fertile ground for Flores Cosmos to weave their floral magic while connecting with like-minded individuals who share a deep appreciation for nature’s artistry.

Personally, I’ve always found it interesting to include a wider range of artistic practices into the so called art space, and I’ve often reflected on what certain people consider does and does not belong in institutional environments. This botanical installation broadened my perception of what may qualify as art and reinforced a sense of belonging for uncommon expressions that spaces like Thread propose. By bringing the organic and ephemeral into the structured and curated, we are made to question what may coexist in a traditional art space.

Flores Cosmos is renowned for their ability to transform organic materials into ethereal compositions that transcend typical floral arrangements. Their work is rooted in an intuitive understanding of nature, balancing structure and spontaneity, order and wildness. This workshop was a testament to their philosophy: embracing the unpredictable beauty of botanicals while constructing something cohesive and intentional.

LEARNING THROUGH COLLABORATION
Our group was introduced to the fundamentals of floral design, from selecting and conditioning materials to composition and large-scale installation techniques. Guided by the Flores Cosmos team, they engaged in hands-on learning, discovering how to manipulate flowers and foliage to create movement, depth, and texture. The process was as much about embracing imperfection as it was about precisionallowing the plants to dictate the direction of the installation while maintaining a delicate sense of control.

The collaborative effort culminated in a beautiful, immersive botanical piece, a testament to both the participants’ creativity and the guidance of Flores Cosmos. This large-scale work not only transformed the space but also served as a living representation of the workshop’s collective spirit. More importantly, it reinforced the idea that nature itself can be a powerful medium for artistic expression, further dissolving boundaries between traditional and unconventional art forms.

PRESENTED DURING ART WEEK IN CELEBRATION OF FUNDACIÓN MARSO
Beyond the technical skills imparted, the experience fostered a deeper connection between the participants and the natural world. It was an exercise in observation, and appreciation—an opportunity to slow down and engage with the intricate beauty of flowers in a way that is often overlooked in daily life.

Our botanical installation was later presented during Art Week in Mexico City, coinciding with the anniversary celebration of Fundación Marso. This added another layer of significance to the piece, positioning it within a broader artistic and cultural context and reinforcing the intersection of floral artistry and contemporary creative practices. It made us broaden our perception and reinforced a sense of belonging for artistic expressions that may not typically find a place in traditional art spaces.
