What To Plan Now

OCTOBER 2025 IDEAS

Hey First name / friend!

Here I am, once again in your inbox nagging you about planning ahead.

If you have not planned your summer vacation you are LATE-- so call me!  I am accepting new trip design assignments thru May 19th, and then will resume on June 19th when I am back from our group safari to Kenya.

I love fall travel—like being in on a secret the rest of the world hasn’t quite caught onto yet.

It’s that sweet spot between the end-of-summer crowds and the rush of holiday season. Cooler temps, fewer people, and better value in some of the world’s most sought-after destinations.

Here’s why October is a great time to get away:

Great Weather: From mountain air to sunny beach days, many destinations hit a seasonal sweet spot in October.

Lighter Crowds: Enjoy ( some) popular places without the peak-season chaos. More space, more peace.
Although the super popular destinations are going to be packed anyway.
( Hello November?)

Better Value: Shoulder season  = better rates, availability, and elevated experiences.

A Chance to Recharge: Give yourself a pause before the holiday rush begins.

Whether you’re looking for fall color, a warm escape, or a bucket-list trip, I’ve rounded up four destinations to consider.

Scroll down to find a perfect  fit ️

Northern Spain

THE EUROPE PICK
Image item
Picture this: Coastal charm, culinary magic, and autumn vineyards.

From the pintxos bars of San Sebastián to the rolling wine country of La Rioja, northern Spain is perfect. The weather is mild, the grape harvest is in full swing, and the cultural mix of seaside and countryside makes this a well-rounded escape.

Perfect Fit For: Food and wine lovers, and travelers who love mixing city, sea, and countryside.

📌 Must Know: Fall is harvest season—book early for winery stays and tasting menus in La Rioja!
Bonaire

THE SUN & SAND PICK
Image item
Can you see yourself here? Crystal-clear waters, colorful reefs, and Caribbean calm—without the threat of hurricane season looming over your trip.

Bonaire is a lesser-known gem in the Dutch Caribbean, offering world-class snorkeling, diving, and laid-back vibes. October brings warm weather, steady trade winds, and fewer crowds—making it a perfect time to unplug and unwind by the sea.

Perfect Fit For: Water lovers, eco-conscious travelers, and anyone craving a  tropical escape.

📌 Must Know: Skip the mega resorts—Bonaire shines with boutique hotels and dive-focused stays.
Bhutan

THE FAR FLUNG PICK
Image item
Bhutan is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited. There is no where else like it…if there is, I have not found it yet!

October is one of the most beautiful times to visit Bhutan, with clear skies and festivals like Thimphu Tshechu bringing the country’s spiritual and cultural traditions to life. Hike to cliffside monasteries, visit Buddhist monasteries,  and experience the rhythm of life in the Himalayas.  The people, always attired in the national dress, are warm and friendly, and amazingly English is spoken everywhere.

Perfect Fit For: Inquisitive travelers, culture seekers, and those craving something truly unique.  And the hotels are amazing…!

📌 Must Know: Bhutan limits tourist numbers through a daily visa fee—your trip must be booked through a licensed tour operator.    And I know a great one!

Vermont

THE CLOSE TO HOME PICK
Image item
Close to home? Say no more. Vermont boasts fall foliage, charming inns, and  small-town streets lined with golden leaves.

October in Vermont is pure  magic. Whether you’re leaf-peeping along scenic roads, drinking cider at a roadside farm stand, or simply sitting by a fireplace, this is the kind of getaway that feels both nostalgic and refreshing.

Perfect Fit For: Fall fanatics, couples, and anyone who lives for sweater weather and scenic drives.

📌 Must Know: Foliage peaks at different times depending on the region—northern areas turn early, so timing is key!
What will it be? Sipping wine in Spain or sunbathing in Bonaire? Which of these October escapes speaks to you most?

And don’t forget—the REAL ID deadline is coming up! Starting May 7th, even a quick domestic trip will require updated identification. Now’s the time to check that off your list ✅

Heading to Europe? ETIAS has been postponed to 2026, so that is one less thing to worry about!

P.S  I am brainstorming ideas for a couple of 2026 small group trips. Couples or singles.  Group size 8-12ish, May or  June 2026?

Here are some of my thoughts, hit reply and let me know yours.

*Southern Spain ( wine, culture, and a riding component for the horse lover)
*Safari ( Kenya and Tanzania,  January or early June)
*River Cruise…Europe?  Wine?  Small intimate boat.  Endless options here..!   Anytime after late April when the weather warms up.
*Yacht in Croatia to Island hop.  This could also work for early September  2026.
*Provence  (did you see the sample itinerary I sent out a few weeks ago?)

If not, click the link below.
