Howdy First name / friend, Last week, we dipped our toes into the world of big T and little t trauma [link here in case you missed it]. We ended with an important question: Why does an event cause trauma for one person and not for another? I posed the idea that if I had walked a lifetime in your shoes—experiencing your events, thoughts, interpretations, and emotions—I would respond to life exactly as you do. |
|
Think about that for a moment. For someone to truly understand the depth of your perceptions, they would have to see life through your lens. While that’s nearly impossible, it does highlight the role of empathy when faced with another person’s trauma—or lack of it. What profoundly affects one person may barely register for another. It often comes down to life experiences and the way we individually process events. Your experiences are valid for you, just as someone else’s are for them. There’s no need to judge our own interpretations against others'. Each of us filters the world uniquely, and when it comes to trauma, we can’t always ‘reason it away.’ |
|
Sometimes, simply acknowledging that something has affected us deeply—whether it seems reasonable (big T trauma) or not (little t trauma)—is an important step. |

Healing and Moving Forward Acknowledging trauma and accepting our experience doesn’t mean we have to carry it so intensely that it disrupts our lives. There are many effective therapies and tools available to help lessen trauma’s impact. Clinical hypnotherapy, for example, offers powerful approaches to releasing emotional burdens and reclaiming a sense of peace. Let me say this clearly—if you are carrying a significant burden, help is available. You don’t have to do this alone. Reach out to me or someone you trust and begin the journey to a better life. You are worth it. |

Looking Ahead For those of us on a healing journey, next week’s newsletter will explore hindsight windows—the powerful connection between pain and purpose. |

Thank you for spending this time with me. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead. |
