Down and Out in the River City by Wm. Stage |
|
WHY IS FRANCIS X. LENIHAN SKULKING AROUND HOPEVILE, the tent city on the banks of the Mississippi at St. Louis? No, he’s not trying to serve a summons, he’s looking for an answer as to why his card was found in the pocket of a young homeless man who died in this camp. It’s a mystery that Francis wants solved and so does Dr. Lambert, the father of the deceased and Francis’ new benefactor.
Lambert has hired Francis and his partner, Cale Twohey, to look into his son’s last months at Hopeville and what a cast of characters they meet—ragged, forlorn indigents that society has scorned, a foot fetishist named Jesus, and Jacob Vorhof, The Soup Man, a stuttering psychopath whose choice of lethal weapon is a stash of opioids. It is 2017 and Francis, intrepid process server, is growing long in tooth. But is he any wiser, choosing to risk prison to delve into a string of killings at the camp? Set against the tumult of civil unrest, Down And Out In The River City is briskly written, a nail-biter with comic twists and turns, flush with flawed heroes and aspiring reprobates, wending their way through the seamy urban streets of St. Louis. |

Strangers in Crime by Shana Frost |
|
He's a criminal; she's a cop. Together, they're incendiary
After a long day at work slaving away for a boss who hates you, wouldn’t you just want some food and your bed? Detective Inspector Cheryl Spiers does too. Only at quarter past 12 on a busy Saturday night, there is no food to be found, just an unsavoury perp.
And of course she is the one who needs to intervene…
Until a muscled arm circles her waist and a voice—accented, sensuous and HOT!—whispers, ‘You ordered a pint but never got to enjoy it. I don’t like that. I’ve got this handled.’
ANTHONY Ricci lives by a few facts of life: -Women are precious; you never raise a hand to them -The law is a bendable straw that often falls short -Cops are the harbingers of doom so stay the hell away
Then from behind the bar he sees her: delicious curves, pinned up hair his hands ache to mess up and cop eyes.
The latter a great reason to stay away. After all, she could mess everything up… Only, when she goes looking for trouble—badge and facts of life be damned—Anthony’s right there, flying perilously close to the sun.
This Good Girl Cop/Bad Guy romance between a detective inspector and criminal with mafia undertones, promises: -Opposites Attract -Forbidden Romance -Mafia Undertones -Plus sized FMC -An Italian, suave, dark and handsome hunk -Suspense & spice -Scottish Culture |

The Divine Adventure: Why We Exist by Zelise |
|
What happens when an original theory about why we exist meets the analytical power of artificial intelligence?
In this groundbreaking exploration, a profound new understanding of existence emerges through an extraordinary dialogue between human insight and AI analysis. As artificial intelligence examines each aspect of this revolutionary theory, it reveals something unexpected: a framework so logically consistent and explanatory that it resolves age-old paradoxes while opening new frontiers of understanding.
The theory not only explains why God created and why the universe exists as it does, but also presents such compelling logic that it fundamentally challenges atheistic thought and, surprisingly, illuminates the path to ethical AI development. Through this unique conversation, readers witness the step-by-step validation of ideas that transform our understanding of:
• Why anything exists at all • How purpose and logic align in creation • What gives life its particular character • Why consciousness and free will matter • How science and spirituality naturally unite
Rather than simply presenting conclusions, The Divine Adventure invites you into the dialogue itself, allowing you to experience each revelation as it unfolds. This journey of discovery offers more than answers – it presents a new paradigm for understanding our place in existence and our relationship with both the divine and each other.
Join this fascinating conversation that bridges human insight and artificial intelligence to unlock one of existence's greatest mysteries: Why We Exist. |
