Friday Faves - March 28, 2025

This week would have been the 100th birthday of Flannery O'Connor.

What puzzles me about Flannery is how she came to view the world as she did.

Both of my grandmothers were born in the same year as her, and I cannot,
for the life of me, imagine either of them in their 20s or 30s
thinking the way that she thought or writing the way she wrote.

She is the definition of unconventional.
She is the definition of gifted.

This week's Friday Faves honors this woman and her bold view of grace.

Two of Dr. O'Donnell's poems are in a book of sonnets she wrote channeling Flannery's voice.
I shared in last week's Friday Faves that I've been mysteriously pulled into poetry,
so I'll likely include this new category from time to time in my Friday Faves.

Jonathan shares a longer version of his essay on this podcast episode.

You can also visit her childhood home in Savannah, Georgia.

Corey considers Flannery one of his writing influences, watching this movie reminded me why.

Whose imagination awes you?

Her Prayer Journal is absolutely beautiful - Wildcat accurately portrayed her concerns about her motivations for writing and her pleas to God to make her a good writer.

Flannery is definitely high on my list of people to talk with in Heaven - what a fascinating woman!!

Be well,
