Have you noticed that western-inspired themes are totally having a moment right now? 🤠 And not just in surface design! Major pop artists like Beyoncé and Chappell Roan are leaning into their inner cowgirls, and that trend is trickling down into all aspects of pop culture, including surface design!

 

Trend Tracking Pro Tip: Trends tend to start and spread from all over – not just in the visual arts! This is why I'm always on the lookout for trends in industries across the board from fashion to music to interior design!

 

Saddle up and get your glittery cowgirl hats ready because this week we're leaning into one of my top predicted trends for 2025 – Space Cowgirl! 🪐🐎

Your challenge this week is to create an illustration or a pattern inspired by the Space Cowgirl trend!

 

Here's a great example of this design motif from one of my student's collections in The Art of Collections program! 

 

 

Fun fact: I got to meet Laura in person when I was home for the holidays in Kansas City!

 

I hosted a meetup for students of The Art of Collections in Kansas City and we were joined by Katey, another talented artist who gifted us with some holiday cards from one of the collections she worked on in the program! 

 

1. Use the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq in your caption

 

2. Tag me (@catcoq) in the actual photo — not just the caption. 

 

Tagging me in the image itself makes it way easier for me to find your artwork, especially since Instagram doesn’t always show hashtag posts in order anymore. This will help me see your post so I can share your work on my Instagram Stories and in this newsletter!
