Hi First name / friend, Well, what a week, huh? In case you’ve been living under a rock, OpenAI just dropped their new image model, Image 4o, and to put it bluntly, the results have shaken me. Now, look, I’ve always been the first to say that AI is here, and as designers, we either adapt or get left behind. I’ve never really feared AI because, up until now, the results have been underwhelming. Messy vectors, distorted hands with seven fingers, and text that looks like gibberish. But Image 4o changed the game. The images flooding the internet this week have completely stopped me in my tracks. If you haven’t seen them yet, just do a quick search on LinkedIn or Twitter. I’ve gone through a whirlwind of emotions. Panic, sadness, excitement, and even questioning whether teaching design will still be relevant when you can generate stunning visuals in seconds with just a prompt. This model can do it all. Packaging, posters, infographics, PNG stickers, mockups, every design style you can think of. The possibilities feel endless. One post that truly stood out to me was this on LinkedIn, where someone uploaded a photo, asked Image 4o to identify all the objects in it, and then generate illustrated stickers from them. When I saw the results, I was genuinely speechless. I’m not trying to be pessimistic. I just wanted to share my honest reaction. It’s been a wild ride this week, and I’d love to hear how you’re feeling about it all. I’ll be around all weekend, so feel free to hit reply and let’s chat. Alright, let’s dive into this week’s Friday Finisher. |

Holographic Box Mockups Give your designs a vibrant, futuristic touch with this freebie featuring holographic textures that I came across this week. These are quite bold, and definitely not everyone's design style, but if you like the retro y2k vibes, then this is for you!
It includes four fully editable mockups, each with a unique scene that adds style and realism to your packaging presentations.

Websites Worth Waking Up For I recently watched a short YouTube video of a talk by Mirek Nisenbaum of Base Design at New York's Nicer Tuesdays. In the video, he introduces his concept of "digital magnetism," an approach to web design that uses the medium as a tool for creative expression in a world of digital sameness.
He walks through the studio’s work on the Studio Museum in Harlem's website as a case study, showing how thoughtful design can make a lasting impact. It’s a great watch for anyone interested in innovative web design and how creativity can elevate digital experiences. If you’re looking for fresh inspiration, I highly recommend checking it out. |
