Real (approachable) Style Advice for Real (grown-up) Women with
Real (smart) Budgets

Sunday, March 30, 2025
Hello First name / friend,

Hello and welcome to the last days of March! Ladies… we’re getting there! Spring is coming sooner rather than later—even if here in Newport, we’re still stuck in the 40s. But I looked ahead, and by next weekend, we’ll finally break into the 60s. Alleluia! 🌷☀️

Today, I’m heading to New Jersey to visit my BFF Jamie of FlirtyFinds fame—a much-needed catch-up and a chance to work on an exciting new project we’re hatching. I just decided yesterday to make the trip, and this morning, I packed in minutes thanks to my (shameless plug) Style System™️. 😉

I simply tapped the #justgetdressed button on my phone, checked the outfit prompts for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, and instantly knew what to pack and what I’ll be wearing. So easy, so efficient, and so flexible! If you haven’t grabbed it yet, now’s the perfect time to jump in!

Trends: Love them or leave them? If you’re over 50, the key to looking modern isn’t about chasing every new style—it’s about choosing what works for you.

Remember… trends are completely optional. You don’t need to follow every new look to stay stylish. Instead, focus on curating trends that feel fresh, modern, and authentically you.

3-Step Trend Strategy: Try It, Tweak It, or Skip It

Not sure if a trend is worth trying? Here’s my simple three-step strategie:

✅ Try it if it appeals to you. If you’re curious about a trend, go for it! Just make sure it aligns with your personal style and makes you feel good.

✅ Tweak it to make it work for you. Not every trend needs to be worn exactly as you see it on influencers. Adjust the colors, proportions, or styling to fit your lifestyle and body shape. Join the Spring Style System for real-life examples and personal help from yours truly. 😘

✅ Pass on it if it feels awkward or inauthentic. If you try something and it just doesn’t feel like “you,” skip it! Confidence is key, and forcing a trend will only make you feel uncomfortable.

The 80/20 Rule: The Secret to Looking Effortlessly Modern

The most stylish women don’t overhaul their wardrobes every season—they refresh them with selective trend updates. The best way to do this? Follow the 80/20 Rule:

✨ Keep your wardrobe 80% classic staples and sprinkle in 20% trends to keep things fresh (the trend garnish vs. trend salad concept)
✨ Choose trends that enhance your style, not overpower it—a modern shoe, an updated silhouette, or a fresh accessory can be all you need.
✨ If a trend feels like it clashes with everything you own, it’s probably not the right one for you.

When to Skip a Trend

Some trends just aren’t worth the hassle—so when should you just say no?

🚫 If it doesn’t flatter your shape or proportions
🚫 If it feels like a costume (aka, not “you” at all)
🚫 If it doesn’t work with what you already own

The bottom line? The most stylish women aren’t trend-chasers—they’re trend-curators. Choose what works for you and skip the rest.

2. Five Wearable Spring Trends to Consider this Season
1. Relaxed Tailoring – Say goodbye to stiff, structured blazers and hello to softer, unstructured jackets, relaxed trousers, and breezy vests. These pieces give you a polished look without feeling too formal.

2. Full-Length, Relaxed Jeans – While cropped and ankle-length jeans are still on trend, longer, relaxed styles are as well. Look for straight or slightly flared cuts that skim the body without being too baggy.

3. Modern Neutrals & Soft Colors – While bold brights always have a place, earthy neutrals (chocolate brown going strong), soft blues, and pretty pastels (i.e. pinks and yellows) are fresh this season. They pair effortlessly with your classic pieces.

4. Sleek Flats & Kitten Heels – Comfortable pointed and square toe flats, suede penny loafers, and low kitten heels are a chic, polished alternative to sneakers when you want a little more polish without sacrificing comfort.

5. Accessories are an easy way to modernize your look. Try small chunky hoops, large skinny hoops, or a layered necklace to elevate even the simplest outfit. A woven leather bag in your spring neutral and modern sunglasses are a great finishing touch, that look on trend without being overly trendy
