Autumn in our region is truly magical—offering clear blue skies, mild temperatures and drier trails that make for perfect hiking, kloofing and climbing conditions. Change of seasons brings gorgeous reds, oranges and yellows to the landscape, while cooler mornings and evenings make long days spent outdoors even more enjoyable. It’s the ideal time to escape the city, explore the mountains and reconnect with nature.

As the crisp autumn air settles over Gauteng, we invite you to explore a diverse line-up of meets scheduled over the next few weeks. Whether you're drawn to the thrill of climbing, the serenity of hiking or the rewarding efforts of conservation work, there's something for everyone. Our calendar features opportunities to discover hidden gems like Mhlabatini in the Magaliesberg, Trad Climbing at Hamerkop and Loskop, Conservation at Tonquani, Wolkberg and Dome and some Sport Climbing at Iron Throne, King's Kloof and Golden Gate. There's also some amazing multi-day meets at Via Ferrata and Spitzoppe, and so much more!

Don't miss out - check out our Meets Calendar and join us in making the most of this time of year before the winter chill sets in.

HIKING @ MAJAKANENG

Wow these guys put in a fantastic effort to make this a tourist attraction even amongst the locals! Our group consisted of 5 MCSA hikers, 10 from another hiking club and 10 individual hikers. It is by appointment only, because Buti gives a really good lecture at the beginning; telling all kinds of interesting stories along the way. There are signs all along the trail, even way at the top of the escarpment. Majakaneng is communal land, belonging to the people of Majakaneng. Buti is fighting the good fight in trying to educate the locals, but unfortunately mountain and water pollution is an ongoing problem (and the water) a lot. The village is very peaceful with goats and chickens walking in the road, and children waving at you as you drive through. It is safe to drive there, provided you have a high clearance vehicle, and everyone is very friendly.

SPORT CLIMBING @ RADIOACTIVE

We had a greater turnout then expected for this tiny but fun crag. We are happy to report that the property owner at Africaland have done a wonderful job cleaning up the trail from the overwhelming overgrowth caused by the exceptional amount of rain we've had this year, and the approach-in is very pleasant. The crag is fully shaded all day long and the climbing is mostly long and sustained for its grades. Everyone enjoyed this less-visited crag very much, giving sport climbers more options as both Chosspile and King's Kloof are both currently closed.
