We just wrapped up the first quarter of 2025 (known in the business world as Q1). How’s your time in the Word going, First name / friend? I will admit that I have struggled to find a good rhythm as I’ve settled into my new role in our business. Often, I find that the day is done, I’m exhausted, and I still haven’t spent time with the Lord. I try to make up for it on the weekends and on days that don’t drain me as much, but it isn’t ideal. I find myself relying on my past studies when I don’t have the energy to dive deep in the Scriptures. So how are you doing? Are you a mountain climber who quit? Or maybe you are “behind” and don’t know how to catch up? Or maybe you started treasure hunting with me, but you’ve realized that a month isn’t long enough to really sink your teeth into a book of the Bible? I have a few suggestions for you: - If you want to keep reading through the Bible, don’t try to catch up, just pick up where you are supposed to be and keep going, or
- Instead of putting a deadline on your reading, just pick up where you left off, read as much as you can each day (or when you can), and be okay with it taking longer than a year.
- If you get to the end of the month and feel like you need more time in the book you’re studying, take it! There is no rule that you can only spend one month in the book (when I ran the Bible Study Academy, we took two months in the book of Romans and three in Revelation, and we still didn’t finish Revelation).
If you want to go a completely different route, might I suggest my Romans workbook, 30 Days in the Book of Romans? (Spoiler alert: I tell you pretty early in the workbook that it will probably take you more than 30 days.) In this workbook, we dive deeply into the book of Romans, covering elements like the historical and literary context, personal application, and thought-provoking questions. It also includes live links to blog posts, podcast episodes, and videos that will help you peel back the layers of the book. While the workbook is not exhaustive, it is pretty robust and will provide loads of help and information. You can check out the workbook by clicking the button below. |

If you are reading through the Bible this year, you are a mountain climber. I have included some information below to help you reach your goal. |

You will be spending this week in the book of Judges, a book that is often hard to stomach. There is a lot of suffering, violence, and injustice in the book. It is a picture of how easy it is to become slaves to sin. A judge in this period of Israel’s history was not what we think of as a judge in modern times, but it was an office with authority. Judges were leaders during wartime, they were instruments of deliverance from the nations around them, and they were administers of justice. Throughout the book, the judges seem to get progressively worse as the nation of Israel settles into the Promised Land and is influenced by the pagan nations around them. This was one reason God commanded the Israelites to destroy these nations—He knew they would be influenced by their practices. God’s people are called to be set apart; we are not to look like the world. This is a fact the Israelites forgot after wandering in the wilderness and finally setting foot in the land. |

Treasure Hunters spend each month (give or take) in a different book of the Bible. They read the book multiple times, study the context of the book (historical, literary, and cultural), and dig deeper into passages that draw them in. |
