Build a Pet First Aid Kit: Stock up on gauze, non-stick bandages, antiseptic wipes, hydrogen peroxide (only for poison emergencies, as directed by a vet), tweezers (for tick or splinter removal), and your vet’s contact information.

 

Know the Signs of an Emergency: Heavy bleeding, difficulty breathing, unconsciousness, or symptoms of poisoning (vomiting, seizures, excessive drooling) require immediate vet attention. Keep the phone numbers and addresses of your closest urgent care and emergency veterinary clinics handy, perhaps in the “Favorites” section of your phone.
