Hey First name / friends!

Feeling stuck with what to add to your portfolio? Here's a simple way to never run out of ideas for your surface design portfolio…

Design seasonal collections!

Seasonal artwork sells so well since customers are specifically buying products for a certain holiday or occasion. Usually, seasonal holidays also center around gifting and parties, which are key categories in the surface design world.

So if you're feeling stuck, sit down and write out alllllllll the holidays you can think of in each season. For example, it's Easter Week week this week, and Mother's Day is another notable spring holiday!

Then, start tackling the seasons and holidays one by one! (If you're wondering where to start, I'd recommend holidays with a heavy emphasis on gifting since those give you more opportunities to earn royalties. Christmas and Valentines are among the top-selling holidays for art licensing!)

But this week, we're going to keep it a little more current! 🐰🐣🌸🌱

Easter Animals
Since Easter is this weekend, we're going to draw animals that evoke springtime and Easter! Think bunnies, ducks, chickens, and lambs.

I love any excuse to draw cute animals, and springtime is a fantastic reason to draw some fun, cute art!

Want some tips for drawing animals in Procreate? Check out this blog post where I talk about my process for drawing animals (like these cute bunny rabbits) from reference images!

I can't wait to see your cute Easter animal illustrations! Want to be featured? Here’s how to join this week’s #CreateWithCatCoq challenge 👇🏼

1. Use the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq in your caption

2. Tag me (@catcoq) in the actual photo — not just the caption.

Tagging me in the image itself makes it way easier for me to find your artwork, especially since Instagram doesn’t always show hashtag posts in order anymore. This will help me see your post so I can share your work on my Instagram Stories and in this newsletter!

If you want to be featured in this newsletter and on my Instagram stories, make sure to use the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq on Instagram and tag @catcoq in the actual photo you post so I can find your work!

Have a fabulous week!
