At first glance, it’s just a lovely photo of cherry blossoms by the Tidal Basin in DC. But behind the photo…. is a mom trying to figure out who she is again.
Anyone else?
My stepdaughter just turned 12 and is in that sweet spot—old enough to be independent and mature, but not quite in full teenage mode yet. My son is about to turn 5 (!!), and it feels like we’re finally coming out of that baby/toddler stage that requires everything from you. (If you know, you know.)
And now I’m suddenly finding myself with little pockets of space again—trying to remember what I like to do just for me. What actually “
fills my bucket” (as my 5-year-old would say)
Getting up before sunrise, walking around the cherry blossoms
>>alone<< and
taking photos just for the
joy of it... that definitely filled my bucket. It’s been almost nine years since I’ve had the chance to do that. And honestly?
It was glorious.
So this season, I’m on a mission: to keep finding those little things that fill me up.
What about you? What fills your bucket these days?
And what’s the story behind your favorite photo?
