a client's journey to stability

When M.R. connected with Britepaths’ Workforce Development team, she
was navigating the obstacles of starting over in a new country without a job,
stable housing, or access to benefits. Through seven personalized coaching
sessions, she gained confidence, strengthened her resume and interview skills,
and pursued her dream to teach. That dream became reality when she received
a job offer as a 4th-grade lead teacher, her first job in the U.S. With support from
both her new employer and Britepaths, M.R. now has the stability she hoped
for and the opportunity to share her passion for education with her students.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

U.S. Representative Don Beyer and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay joined nonprofit leaders—including Britepaths Executive Director Abra Kurt—to discuss the challenges facing our region’s ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population. With federal workforce cuts creating economic uncertainty across our region, the discussion focused on collaborative solutions to address rising needs. Panelists from Capital Area Food Bank, United Community, and United Way of the National Capital Area shared insights on how nonprofits and government must work together to bridge critical service gaps.

Supporting Financial Stability at the Northern Virginia Housing Expo

Britepaths staff and volunteers from the Financial Empowerment Center at South County participated in this year’s Northern Virginia Housing Expo. With more than
300 attendees, the event served as a resource for individuals and families seeking guidance on affordable housing, financial stability, and community support. Our financial empowerment volunteers offered one-on-one coaching and shared
practical tools to help attendees take steps toward long-term financial wellness.

Bridging the Gap for Families
Facing Rising Costs

An Urban Institute study highlights the growing pressure on families with young children, as inflation and proposed cuts to Medicaid and SNAP threaten their ability
to afford essentials like food, health care, and diapers. Nationally, one in three
adults with children under six are food insecure or struggling to meet basic needs.
Britepaths sees these challenges firsthand. We offer targeted support to help ease
the burden on local families. Our SNAP Gap Pantry supplements grocery benefits with household essentials. Thanks to a donation from HomeAid, our pantry also includes diapers. Access to basic needs is a matter of health, dignity, and stability, and we remain committed to helping families weather hardship while finding a path forward.
