DOPO Pizza & Pasta made the move from its St. Lawrence Avenue location in Reno to the old Sizzle Pie building near the Pioneer Center, after the latter closed abruptly last year.
 
Kwok’s Bistro was recognized by Food & Wine as No. 12 on a list of Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in America for 2024.
 
In mid-December, Fourk Kitchen bid adieu to Reno. The restaurant was known for serving multicourse, prix fixe menus that rotated once per month, but after fewer than four years in business, the owner decided to pull the plug when his attempts to sell were unsuccessful.
 
The adorable pink building on Pine Street in Reno opened as Chrome Coffee Works on Nov. 21. The retro spot serves a simple menu of coffee and tea, plus breakfast burritos and pastries.
 
As part of the renovations happening at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Brew Brothers will open May 1. You may be familiar with the restaurant currently open at The ROW in Reno, which doubles as a nightclub after hours. The craft beer and dining venue in South Lake Tahoe will be located just off the casino floor, where the food court and California Bar used to operate. The total footprint will encompass 7,930 square feet.
 
In August, Hello Tacos burst onto the scene with its bright pink food truck. Want to know where to get your fix? Follow along on Instagram at Eathellotacos. The truck serves up artisan tacos and also offers catering.
 
Another restaurant expected to open soon is The Golden Dragon, moving into 999 Pho’s former spot, at 2309 Kietzke Lane in Reno. The Chinese restaurant comes from the family responsible for Golden Flower, Asia Market, and Poke King.
 
The Cake Slice closed its location on South McCarran in Reno on Nov. 19.

DATE-NIGHT DESTINATION

Adam and Alexa DeMezza practically gutted their Incline Village restaurant’s building when they first purchased it in 2022, converting it from the former home of Birdies Hot Chicken to their cozy, upscale restaurant, Rosewood. About one year later, they celebrated its grand opening, and today, they continue to see community support as both a locals’ favorite haunt and a hotspot for visitors.

BEHIND THE SMOKE DOOR

On Lake Tahoe’s north shore, an understated, ash-toned restaurant fuses ancient cooking traditions with luxury dining and innovative cocktails. Welcome to Smoke Door Lake Tahoe Saryo. The word “saryo” means “small tea house” and is used to describe boutique restaurants in Japan. In fact, Burges opened the first Smoke Door restaurant in Yokohama in 2022. Honoring the saryo tradition, Smoke Door Lake Tahoe offers a petite dining room, bar, and patio seating (weather permitting).

TAKE THE CANNOLI

“There are only two cultures in the world: Italians, and those who wish they were,” says Johnnie Sorrentino with a smile. In 2021, Johnnie and his wife, Evie, opened Café Evie/Rolli Cannoli, a delivery bakery celebrating la crème de la crème of Southern European desserts.
