BREE'S BARRON RIVER BULLETIN |
It’s been a full and emotional few weeks in the Barron River community—with ANZAC Day commemorations, Easter, and many incredible local events bringing people together. Amid the celebrations, we have also felt the deep sorrow of two unexpected tragic losses—toddler Henry Spletter and passionate mountain biker Frank Falappi. My heart goes out to their families, friends, and all who knew and loved them. I extend my deepest condolences to everyone affected, and I want to sincerely thank the first responders who were there in those heartbreaking moments and did all they could. As I have mentioned in my last newsletter, my goal is to keep the community informed on what is going on in the Barron River, as well as FNQ. Smithfield Mountain Bike Park Expansion Confirmed |
We’ve secured the funding! We’re investing $15.5 million to transform Smithfield Mountain Bike Park into a world-class destination with 85km of trails by 2028! This has been a big priority for me, and I am so excited to share this news. This expansion will further establish FNQ as the premier mountain biking destination in Australia and secure Cairns as the Reef, Rainforest & Riding Capital of Australia, if not the globe. Over 75,000 riders are expected to use this facility each year—supporting local tourism, bike shops, cafes, accommodation providers, and more.
